The Future

Belinda and I strongly believe that we must concentrate on what good can come out of this experience. Beneath the pain, some things are of significant comfort to us at this time.

Friends

The response we had from you, our friends, relatives, colleagues, neighbours and medical staff was phenomenal. From the text messages and cards through to friends such as Amy and Arran who held our hands physically and emotionally at the toughest moment. It's impossible to overstate the importance of that support, and we will thank you all personally in due course.

Medical Staff

The staff of both the Royal Free Hospital, and Great Ormond Street were outstanding both in their medical expertise, and in their compassion. We have written to both establishments to specifically thank the individuals involved in Skye's care. Also we have asked that where people felt motivated to give gifts or flowers, that instead donations were passed directly to Great Ormond Street Hospital such that they can continue their excellent work.

Transplant Donations

Skye's heart valves were the only part of her small body that would be appropriate for transplant donation. The two heart valves she was able to provide may serve to save the life of two separate babies. There can be no greater tribute to Skye's life.

Relationships

The trauma we have been through has brought us an order of magnitude closer in our relationship. Typical everyday disagreements are so sharply put into perspective. You expect to learn the greatest lessons in life from those who are older and wiser, but those few days with Skye taught us an unimaginable amount. We are forever grateful for that.
