US OPEN REPORT

With a group of 11 swimmers from UK we traveled to San Antonio on Tuesday late November. Eventhough we were not tapered for this meet I felt pretty good and was hoping I could squeeze out some decent swims.

Day 1
On Thursday I had to swim the 50 free and in prelims I ended up 9th, barely missing the A-final packed with great swimmers like Jenny Thompson, Amy van Dyken and the returning Dara Torres. The swim at night did not feel good and i was somewhat disappointed with my 26.59 and a 12th place overall.

Day 2
Friday was the day of the 200 free for me and i did not really know what to expect from this since i haven't swam a decent 200 in a couple of years. Relaxed and easily i touched the wall in 2.05.6, which was not good enough to come back at night but a personal best for me.

Day 3
Last day of the meet and my best event the 100 free. Couldn't really get going in the morning but managed a 57.51, barely missing the A-final again. At night i felt better during warm up but in the race I had a shitty start, a shitty turn and a shitty time of 57.57.

Overall opinion of this meet?
Way to many entries and sessions lasted far too long. The positive side was I got to swim against some of the best freestyle swimmers in the world.

What did i learn from this meet?
Nice meet to gain some long course experience but do not go to a meet like this untapered, you'll feel frustrated!
