Docks

Strolling along
By the teeming docks,
I watch the ships put out.
Black ships that heave and lunge
And move like mastodons
Arising from lethargic sleep.

The fathomed harbor
Calls them not nor dares
Them to a strain of action,
But outward, on and outward,
Sounding low-reveberating calls,
Shaggy in the half-lit distance, They pass teh poites headland,
View the wide, far-lifting wilderness
And leap with cumulative speed
To test the challenge of the sea.

Plunging,
Doggedly onward plunging,
Into salt and mist and foam and sun.

- Carl Sandburg -
"Convey love to thy friend as and arrow to the mark; not as a ball against the wall, to rebound back again."

- Francis Quarles -
Eclipse

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy
beg, borrow or steal
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say
All that you eat
everyone you meet
All that you slight
everyone you fight
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclpised by the moon.

                              - Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) -
Everything is everything
What is meant to be, will be
After winter, must come spring
Change, it comes eventually

               - Lauren Hill -
Love is the part, and love is the whole;
Love is the robe, and love is the pall;
Ruler of heart and brain and soul,
Love is the lord and the slave of all!

Alas! how easily things go wrong!
A sigh too deep or a kiss to long.
And then comes a mist and a weeping rain,
And life is never the same again.

-George MacDonald-
Under the Harvest Moon

Under the harvest moon,
When the soft silver
Drips shimmering
Over the garden nights,
Death, the gray mocker,
Comes and whispers to you
As a beautiful friend
Who remembers.

    Under the summer roses
When the flagrant crimson
Lurks in the dusk
Of the wild red leaves,
Love, with little hands,
Comes and touches you
With a thousand memories,
And asks you
Beautiful, unanswerable questions.

    - Carl Sandburg -
Monotone

The monotone of the rain is beautiful,
And the sudden rise and slow relapse
Of the long multidunious rain.

The sun on the hills is beautiful,
Or a captured sunset sea-flung,
Bannered with fire and gold.

   A Face I know is beautiful -
With fire of gold of sky and sea,
And the peace of long warm rain.

Untouchable Face
By Ani DeFranco

Think I'm going for a walk now
Feel a little unsteady
Don't want no one to follow me, exept maybe you
I could make you happy you know
If you weren't already
I could do a lot of things
And I do...

Tell the truth I prefer the worst of you
Too bad you had to have a better half
She's not really my type,
But I think you two are forever
And I hate to say it but you're perfect together

So fuck you
And your untouchable face
And fuck you
For existing in the first place
And who am I
That I should be vying for your touch
And who am I
I bet you can't even tell me that much

2:30 in the morning
Gas tank will be empty soon
Neon sign on her eyes
And rubbing elbows with the moon
Safe-haven of sleepless
With deep fryers always on
Radio is counting down the top 20 country songs
Out on the front porch the fly-strip is waving like a flag in the wind
You know, I don't look forward to seeing you again
You'll look like a photograph of yourself
Taken from far, far away
And I won't know what to do
And I won't know what to say, exept

Fuck you
And your untouchable face
And fuck you for existing in the first place
And who am I
That I should be vying for your touch
Said who am I
I bet you can't even tell me that much

See you and I'm so perplexed
What is he thinking?
What will I think of next?
Where can I hide?
In the backroom there's a lamp that hangs over the pool table
And when the fan is on it swings gently side to side
As the changing constellation of the balls as we are playing
I see your eye and I'm saying nothing
The only thing I can think of saying

Fuck you
And your untouchable face
And fuck you
For existing in the first place
And who am I
To be vying for your touch
And who am I
Bet you can't even tell me that much

Who am I? Somebody tell me that
Who am I? Can you just tell me that
Who am I?
Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get to trade you heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
All At Once

All at once
You feel out of place
All at once
There's a reality you have to face
You suddenly come to realize
See things through different eyes
The life you thought that was your own
Is no longer yours cause you have grown
