The XTerra is an off-road triathlon series that occurs in lots of locations around the US. The event is Swim-Bike-Run and is about the equivalent of an Olympic distance tri, except that they put mountains on the bike and run legs. The distances were 1.5km swim, 30km mountain bike, 10km run.

Crossing the finish line in 4:31:00 hrs. My goal was to beat my time from last year (3:39hrs) but the race organizers had other plans. They added 1200 more feet of climbing to the bike course, bringing the total to 4000 vertical feet of climbing over 18 miles. I actually had a better race this time, but took 1 hr longer since the course was so much harder.

Here I am falling down to quiver and just about pass out. This was definitely a day of maximal exertion. If I'd gone any harder they woulda hooked me up to an IV in the medical tent. Of course I would have had to stand in line for that since so many people did not finish. Even though 180 finishers are shown on the results, something like 250+ started the race. Ouch. There were plenty of taco-ed rims, busted collarbones, broken arms & heat exhaustion victims to go around. They said this was the hardest XTerra course of any event they've done, ever. They promised not to make the course so hard next year.
