THE NEW MILLENNIUM
Dominic Byles
(148)
The Cartoon of Dominic's 148 car was drawn by Des Penny for the 'Stockcar Magazine' as seen in the '148' 1999 F2 Season.

The 'animation' is by Dave Forte.
Cheers Dave.
Almost as fast as the real thing
?!
Second from the Left!
Dominic's first ''mention' in the Press!
No Chequred Flag.....Shame!
Time to get the Stocker ready. The long cold days and nights, grazed knuckles, often on your own. Dominic has just applied another coat of red chassis paint. The aerofoil is away being re-signwritten with  'MEDIPROP'. A new Sponsor. They supply 'props' plus equipment for Films and Television Programmes.  (Photo: Glynn)
Outside the workshop, to speed up paint drying. The smell of paint was easily covered by the pile of horse manure by the gate!! The water is from a violent storm ten minutes earlier!!  The newly signwritten aerofoil is covered before polishing to protect it from the scratching 'shale' racing will give it!  (Photo: Glynn)
Whilst in the pits during a Hartlepool Meeting way back in 1979, Dominic takes the chance of sitting in JT's F1 Stocker! (Photo: Glynn)

A great photo of 148 Lined up on the grid, ready for the 'rolling lap' of Heat 2.
During Heat 2 a bunch of cars tried to get round a corner, all at the same time! (nothing new in that!) The 148 car ended up with a 'modified' bonnet and had to pull off the track!
A speedy repair got Dominic out for the Consolation.  The bonnet lifted up when the clip came adrift during more contact racing.
148 gets a 4th place, brilliant! With a few more adjustments Dominic joins the FINAL due to his 4th place and finishes 7th.  Not bad eh! First drive at Birmingham and first drive in the 601 car.  A great day plus 11 Points and £18 prize money!
HEDNESFORD HILL RACEWAY 5th November
Only Dominic's third Meeting of the year. Guy Fawkes Night too! This is a large and very fast Tarmac track set in a natural 'bowl'. Practise from 11.30am which Dominic must do as it his first visit to this Circuit, as a Competitor!
Have a look at their very smart Web site.

148 Wins Heat 1 (16 Laps)
From Row 3 of a 28 car heat Dominic fought hard to pass the first 5 White Top's by the end of Lap 1. Extra effort to pass the next 2 by Lap 9. Simon McNab, Yellow Top 67, was harder to catch. Late breaking into each corner closed him up to within 'nerfing' range, with 2 Laps to go!   (Photo's Right & Below: Glynn)
(Photo Right: Glynn)
With both cars coming into contact entering the second corner of Lap 14, Dominic got on the 'inside line'. No room for error! Too good a chance to miss.
                                                                                                      Photo above
The 148 car goes over the 'Rumble Strips' into turns 1 & 2. With more contact Dominic drives hard to get through on the inside. With only 7 'corners' to go before the Chequered Flag he had to go for it!
Hold the line, hold the nerve and foot down!

In turns 3 & 4....
Phew!  Done it!

Some wheelspin makes the rear tyres smoke as Dominic gets the 'pedal to the metal', whilst trying to get away from Simon in the Yellow 67 car, to win the Heat!!
The Lap of Honour for Heat 1 Winner Dominic Byles (148). His first F2 win and in his first race at Hednesford!!
In the excitement the Chequered flag was not handed to the driver so we improvised!

Britain's National paper 'Motoring News' thought Dominic's first ever win in Heat 1 on November 5th 2000 at Hednesford, worthy of a mention.
Quite a day, one way and another.
In fact, quite a Year.

It is unlikely that Dominic will
make any appearances on the tracks in 2001. Having sold his Stockcar and work commitments, a year out is planned. But who knows what could happen in 2002!
