Chassis
Brand-new for 1999,
the CR®80R and
CR80R-Expert have
received significant
chassis modifications
to improve handling
precision. The
steering head has
been relocated
(10mm rearward and
10mm down). The
resulting shorter
wheelbase provides
more precise turning
and tracking. Frame
rigidity has also been
increased 20 percent
through larger frame
tubing, a
larger-diameter
cross-member and
strengthened
stiffener plate and
gussets. Lastly, a new
handlebar bend
optimizes rider
position and comfort. |
Suspension
A 37mm inverted Showa
cartridge front fork
boasts 10.8 inches of
travel and features
adjustable compression
and rebound adjusters.
For 1999, a number of
friction-reducing
changes have been
made, including a
redesigned fork slider
bushing and improved
outer-tube honing
process. The fully
adjustable Showa single
shock has received new
damping rates and is
now 1mm shorter for
improved handling and
balance. A new linkage
rate improves
compliance and
provides better wheel
control. Travel is 10.8
inches (11.5 for the
CR®80R-Expert). |
