Ever wonder how the HHHL came about? Read on... To many people the HHHL means absolutely nothing, but for a select group of people it means more than that. It means every sunday getting up early no matter what condition you're in and giving it your all. For some people it includes blood, sweat, and beers... The HHHL began for the most part while the class of 2000 were still seniors. Some of us had played some pickup games at such select locations as Wack's house and Walsh's house. We began to congregate at Chris and Dennis Walsh's house one sunday. Joining the game were Kevin Hewson, Dan Ostler, Chris Walsh, Dennis Walsh, Bob Ankenbauer, Pat Corbett, and many others. The day was highlighted by a huge melee started by Pat Corbett, and Bob Ankenbauer checking Dan Ostler into a bush. We decided to play again real soon and we found ourselves on the hallowed rink of the Marshall Middle School. All we needed was a name for our league. After much debate the league name was to be called the HHHL. It stood for H**** Hardcore Hockey League. The league was named after a well-known ex-girlfriend of one of the players. He has decided she should remain nameless and to avoid further confusion we will call her Mary. We didn't have a regular schedule, just pick-up games here and there and we soon realized that something special was in the air. The first year just kind of ended abruptly as most of us embarked on college. We returned home last summer with an empty void in most of us. That void was to be filled with hardcore hockey at its finest. A meeting was to be held at the HHHL headquarters (Walsh's house) to decide what was going on. Many people felt there was no need for the meeting, including Dave Falvey and Chuck Viveiros, who walked on it. After much debate we decided we were playing the next Sunday. We all decided someone should be elected commish. The nominees were Dan Ostler & Bob Ankenbauer and Chris Walsh & Kevin Hewson. That saturday night, Mr. Ankenbauer and Mr. Ostler, along with many others may or may not have been seen, depending on who you ask, at a big frat party at MIT. The next day Dan and Bob were "under the weather" and therefore the Chris Walsh/Kevin Hewson ticket won the election and year 2 of the HHHL season was off. Year two produced many new superstars such as Marc Lombardo, Kevin Moore, Seth Gurney, Barry Lombardo, Dave Torrice, Ryan Gough, among others. There were many great games, great saves, a lucky hat trick by Chuck, and then the last sunday at the hallowed rink provided a 2 out of 3 series for the ages. Game one was won by Team Blowjobs by the ugly score of 9-2. Providing the offense were Chris Walsh, Dennis Walsh, Dave Torrice, and Bob Ankenbauer for Team Blowjobs. Game 2 was a different story as Ryan Gough led his team to victory in OT by a score of 10-9. Team blowjobs did a good job of tying the game up only to see Gough score the winning goal in OT. Marc Lombardo added 4 goals to the winning cause. The final game was a very controversial one as there were problems with the clock. Team Pass-the-gall-to-Gough won the game 8-7 behind a great effort in net by Dan Ostler and a hat trick by Kevin Moore. Also playing outstanding in defensive support were Kevin Hewson and Mike Skelton. At the end of the game everyone had left their heart and soul on the rink, and the season was over. however soon we will be embarking on our third season...and who knows what could happen?!.... .... Year 3 sucked...fights were on the daily agenda and then basically the whole league quit leaving only 9 MEN to carry the torch. For these warriors quitting was not any kind of option at all. Struggling to host pickup games every Sunday, numbers were always a factor but thanks to help from waiver wire players such as Chris Jones, Emily Collins and Mr. Paul Brennan who moved pretty good for a man in his um...30s or 40s, no hockey would stop. Also some People from Umass Lowell played and it was fun... So! Alright! Anyway, here we are in its 4th official year with full rosters like no other. The Veteran pros are met with new , young faces who will probably kick the shit out of them. This is by far going to be the most competitive year so far. Some new owners, some girls actually playing, people who want to play goalie, and a website. Come on in, were just gettin started....
