WEEK THREE

Orland 15; Steger 4. - By Ray Arndt
Orland Park #1 scored in each inning and beat Steger 15-4. It
could have been worse. We left 11 runners on base in our 6
innings at bat.

Silver Streaks 19; Blue Chips 1.
After two tough losses the Streaks exploded with a 19-1 slaughter
over a decimated Blue Chip team that was missing seven players,
including many of their top stars.

Calumet City 11; Steger 10.
Rich Young's Cal City team won their first game Wednesday
night in Steger to equal their entire win total from last year
when they wound up 1-17. Coming after their first game loss to
Orland Park One, CC continues to demonstrate it's improvement
that was widely expected.

Although Cal City won the game, a thrilling come-from-behind
11-10 battle, they were embarrassed by a series of mental
mistakes and laughable mishaps throughout the game.

Cal City 0 2 4 4 0 0 1 - 11
Steger 4 2 1 3 0 0 0 - 10

Their worst inning was the first. After one out, Cal City got
their next three batters on via singles to load the bases. That
brought up left-fielded Tom Murphy, who also singled, but the
runner on third, Ron, who scored easily, touched the wrong home
plate, thus erasing the run. With the bags still loaded and 2
out, tough hitting Young came up but took a called third strike
to end the inning. Four hits and NO runs!

Things continued in the bottom of the first when Young's
fumble enabled Steger's leadoff man to reach first. Two singles
and two fly outs brought in one run, but Steger's number 6 hitter
drove a line drive 30 feet past the left fielder to make the
score 4-0.
In the top of the 2nd a double and a triple after one out
brought in one run, but a bad call by umpire Ray Heintz took
away a base runner for his team. Two singles followed, but the
call was costly as the inning only produced 2 runs.
Another error helped produce two more runs for Steger.
Cal City exploded for four runs in the top of the third, but
lost another run when they were doubled up on fly to right and
some sloppy base running. They left the bases loaded.
Steger broke the 6-6 tie in the bottom of the third when sure-
fielding Murphy missed a fly in left.
Cal City went ahead 10-7 on a home run by Murphy in the top of
the fourth.
Steger tied up the game in the bottom of the 4th when another
error with two outs led to three unearned runs scoring.
Both teams were scoreless in the fifth and sixth. In the top
of the 7th with two outs and two on right-centerfielder Jim singled in the lead run.
Steger came back and led off with a double, but the 3, 4, and
5 batters each made out to give Cal City the victory.
Steger dropped to a 0-4 record. Cal City evened their record
at 1-1. Leading Calumet was pitcher Cliff Kline who reached
base the first six times this year and had a two-run homer in
the fourth inning in this game. His seventh time up he grounded
to the mound, but hurt his leg swinging the bat and couldn't
run. However, when the pitcher juggled the ball, then dropped
it, the play at first wound up close, with Cliff limping down to
first. A real laugher.

Remember When 29; Chicago Heights 7.
What was supposed to be a tough battle between two top teams
turned into an incredible 29-7 drubbing by defending champion
Remember When over the new team, Chicago Heights. The Heights
suffered their first loss.

Grand Gents 25; Orland Park Two 10.
The Grand Gents stayed unbeaten by beating Orland Park Two 25-
10 at Orland Park.
