Y&P Walther P99 This is the newest addition to my burgeoning airsoft collection, and, as a result, is my current favorite. I am a huge James Bond fan, ever since my Dad first rented me Dr.No when I was about 5. While it may not have taught me much in the way of appropriate treatment of women and authority, it did give me a certain place in my heart for small guns. I'm getting closer in my quest for the spring PPK, but I was delighted to see that I could be temporarily satisfied by the (perhaps) new Bond issue gun, the Walther P99. Appearance: Looks wise, this gun is a beaut. From what I can see in pictures, it is pretty damn close in appearance to the real steel. It has a multi-contoured grip, an opening ejection port and a big P99 on the side. But the gun also has some little bonuses. For one, it comes with two different grips: one small to let your hand wrap around it tightly, and a larger one to give the compact gun a larger feeling. Another little perk is that the slide locks back on the last shot. Not automatically of course, but if you cock it when the magazine is empty it locks. Drop the mag, reload, slam it back in and release the slide: cocked and ready! It doesn't allways work so perfectly, but it is still cool. the gun is also fully field-strippable, which is a nice touch. The full size magazine is weighted, and, when inserted, it gives the gun nice heavy, albeit end-heavy, feeling. There are no safeties, but a red indicator in the rear which is exposed when the gun is ready to fire. Performance: This is where the gun is notorius for falling short. No, it does not fire hard as shit. No, the accuracy isn't gonna have you exploding grapes at 300 yards. But I usually use mine for close range backup, and it is fine to give a little welt to whomever invades my personal space. Negative Points: Besides the performance, there are a few problems with this gun. The clip was pretty loose on mine, but I got some black electrical tape and solved that. When cocked, the barrel rattles around a bit inside the slide, which ain't too bad, but negative nevertheless. Sometimes it locks back at the wrong time, but if you handle it right it works okay. It also comes with that damn orange paint, not on the barrel, but on the muzzle. If you live somewhere where it is not a federal offense, you can CAREFULLY remove it with nail polish remover. Living in the US, I've only heard this, so don't hold me liable if you fuck up the paint. Price: Picked mine up from Texas Extreme Sports for $40 plusS H. I must say he was very quick in responding and my package got here quickly. I've heard you can pick it up for cheaper but you may have to resort internationally which may boost the shipping tremendously. |

A clear version of the P99. I've never seen one up close, but I hear they really look cool. | ||||||||||||||||
