HANGOVER UNITED - MATCH REPORT 2003 WEEK 7 HANGOVER 6 OVELEA FC 1, UNITED STAY TOP OF TABLE
In the second half, Hangover looking good and creating opportunities but just not being able to finish. The Hangover midfield started to give up some space and the Hangover defense became a bit laxed in the marking department. An intercepted clearance pass and a couple of quick passes later found the Overlea striker alone in front of net and put the ball past Hangover keeper Bert Miller in the 55th minute making it 2-1. “Now all of a sudden after 55 minutes of domination we have a game on our hands” player/manager Chris King noted. “We then went into our spastic semi-freakout kickball mode. It rears its ugly head on occasion and we have learned to deal with it but it still makes things a bit uneasy.” King added. Tom Burgoon with absolute intent destroyed the Overlea striker outside the side of the 18, earning him a well deserved yellow card, his second of the season. Then in the 68th minute some good passin lead to a ball played in the middle to John Jenkins and Dan Gerbasi came in and one timed a nice right footed bender into the right upper 90 that the Overlea keeper didn’t have a chance at. “That killed their comeback attempt right there. You could see it on their faces” the injured Ben Hinceman commented. The floodgates were now open and only 2 minutes later Jenkins played a low cross into the goal mouth that Aron Shea got a foot/shi on that found its way in. Shea struck again in the 78th minute when John Jenkins shot to the far post hit the upright and came out to Shea who finished into the open net. “It was frustrating first half for me but I found my feet in the second half and it felt good” Shea said. Hangover added another in the83rd minute when Gerbasi finshed off his hat-trick courtesy of Shea. Final score 6-1 to Hangover United putting them at 6-0-0 for the first time in the clubs history. At the post match press conference at Kislings player/manager Chris King said, “We played a good match but we did have a nice reminder that we have to play a full 90 minutes.” King added “Things got a little hairy there in the second half after Overlea scored. But we pulled it out… it was a very good lesson for everyone. The 2-0 lead is the most dangerous scoreline in the game. I hope we now realize that we have to close out every game.” After 7 weeks, John Jenkins is still the MMSL point leader for both Div I & II with 29 points (10 goals, 9 assists). Hangover next take on Ashland Café in a top-of-the-table clash for The 2nd Annual - Friends & Family Day” on Sunday October 26th at 10:00 AM at Patterson Park.
