CHARTER MEMBERS

MEL BREWER & LOGAN GOAR

THE PLUMB - 40 ESCADRILLE IS A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO LOVE TO FLY, WORK ON AIRPLANES AND JUST HANG OUT AT THE AIRPORT---WE HAVE VERY FEW RULES---NO DUES AND ONCE YOU ARE ACCEPTED INTO THE GROUP YOU ARE IN FOR LIFE---OUR EMBLEM IS A PAIR OF WINGS ATTACHED TO A PLUMB-BOB WHICH HAS A BENT TIP--ALMOST EVERY ONE IN THE GROUP HAS A DIFFERENT IDEA WHAT THE BENT TIP STANDS FOR SO WE DON’T TRY TO EXPLAIN IT--WE HAVE ADOPTED FLOYD H. “SLATS” RODGERS AS OUR PATRON SAINT AS HE SEEMS TO BE THE RIGHT KIND OF GUY

HE WAS THE FIRST PERSON IN TEXAS TO OBTAIN A FEDERAL PILOTS LICENSE AND DUE TO SOME QUESTIONABLE ACTIONS ON HIS PART HE WAS ALSO THE FIRST PILOT TO HAVE HIS LICENSE TAKEN AWAY--HE BUILT HIS OWN AIRPLANE IN 1911 AND A PICTURE OF HIM AND THIS AIRPLANE TAKEN ON MAIN STREET IN CLEBURNE, TEXAS IS ON DISPLAY AT THE MUSEUM IN CLEBURNE

ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE FLYING EXPERIENCES OF “SLATS” DURING THE EARLY DAYS OF AVIATION IN TEXAS SHOULD READ THE BOOK “OLD SOGGY NO.1”
