AMATEUR RADIO STATION " K5GQQ " OPERATOR

--- C. MELVIN FREEMAN ----

I got my Novice License in 1961 and made a host of new friends--After working almost a year in the Novice Bands I Finally past my Code Test on the third try and received my permanent Call Sign -- "K5GQQ" As all new Operators do I, chased DX for a number of years ---And filled up a lot of folders with QSL Cards from around the World --- In later years Wally "WA5GEB" and I started competing with each other to see who could collect the most "SPECIAL EVENTS CERTIFICATES" --- I don't think I ever did get ahead of him---That took up a lot of our time on Week-Ends but we both enjoyed it ---I'm sorry to say Wally past away Jan. 7th 1998 and I really do miss him as we had a great time together on the Amateur Radio Bands----About all the Operating I do now after losing Wally is 2 Meter Mobile---There is a great bunch of guys on 2-Meters and I still talk to them when I'm in my car but it's not the same without Wally Covington-- " WA5GEB "

I'm sorry to report that another Amateur Radio Friend of mine for many years passed away on January 1st. 2001--- J.W. Whitmire (W5EUB)-- He was always there when I needed help with Radio Problems and he gave his help unselfishly--- Without his help I would never have had the success in Amateur Radio I enjoyed over the Years-- His passing was a great loss to all who knew him and he will be missed but never forgotten by everyone---
