ASVLR: American Ski Vacation Lodging Rentals
Overall privacy statement
Your privacy on the internet is of the utmost importance to us.
Because we gather certain types of information about owners
who advertise on ASVLR's network of webpages, we feel you should
fully understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture
and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what
information we gather, how we use it, and how to correct or change it.
1. Information ASVLR gathers
and tracks
ASVLR gathers two types of information about owners: (1) data that owners provide
through optional, voluntary registration on our
FREE Listing Form and on our
Enhanced Listing Form and
through optional, voluntary participation in our owner/renter referral
and condo swap programs; and (2) aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying
page views throughout our sites. Such information enables us to better tailor
our content to skiers' needs and to help our advertisers better understand
the demographics of our audience. Because ASVLR derives its revenue
from enhanced listings and advertising, providing such aggregated demographic
data is essential to keeping our FREE listing service. Under NO circumstances
does ASVLR divulge it's user information without the user's express consent.
ASVLR gathers user information in the following processes:
• Optional registration
As stated above, two ASVLR sites offer free, voluntary registration to ski rental property owners:
the FREE Listing Form and the Enhanced Listing Form.
On the FREE listing form an owner is required to supply
information as to whether they own a single unit or multiple units,
their full name, a company name (for multiple unit listings),
telephone number, state and ski area where the property is located,
the type of property owned, the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, and sleeping
capacity. Except for the owner's name, all of this information is freely
provided to site visitors on the appropriate web page. Owner names are used
by ASVLR only when there is some doubt as to the authenticity of a listing.
During FREE registration the user has the option of supplying
a toll-free phone number, e-mail address, postal address.
The Enhanced listing form requires that an owner first complete the FREE
listing form. During Enhanced registration the user supplys the same
information as above as well as a rental
property address, URL for property homepage, FAX number, best time to call,
e-mail address, accommodation name, property description, and other booking
information. Again all of this information is freely
provided to site visitors on the appropriate web page.
In addition, the owner can opt to subscribe to condo swap and owner/renter
referral information supplied by ASVLR and to have his or her email address
and/or phone number appear when this information is distributed.
• Polling
In the future ASVLR plans to offer interactive polls to skiers and
ski rental property owners so they can easily share
their opinions with other users and see what the ASVLR audience thinks about
important issues. ASVLR will use a system to "tag" users after they have voted,
so they can vote only once on a particular question. This tag will not be correlated
with information about individual users.
• Message boards/forums
ASVLR also plans to offer Message Boards and a bulletin board.
Users will be required to register separately for these services (both will be free of
charge). During registration the user will be required to supply a username,
password, and email address.
• Electronic newsletters (Dispatches)
As stated above the Enhanced listing site offers a free condo swap and
owner/renter referral network newsletter to property owners.
Users subscribe to the newsletters at the time of registration.
ASVLR gathers the email addresses of users who voluntarily subscribe.
Users may remove themselves from these mailing lists by sending an e-mail to
SkiLodging@webtv.net.
• Surveys
Occasionally ASVLR plans to conduct user surveys to better target our
content to our audience. We may share the aggregated demographic
information in these surveys with our advertisers and partners.
We will never share any of this information about specific individuals with
any third party.
• Contests and sweepstakes
ASVLR may on occasion offer contests and sweepstakes in which we request
certain personal information. At a minimum, the required information will
include name and email address; in some cases, the user will answer mandatory
survey questions about a range of other personal data. The information gathered
in the entry form will be used to verify the entrant's identity, to send the
entrant an email notification that their entry has been received, and to contact
winners and/or prize recipients. There are two situations in which ASVLR will
divulge this information to a third party--provided the user gives
express consent:
(1) A user may expressly choose to receive additional information from the
contest sponsor, in which case the user's personally identifiable
information is divulged to the advertiser.
(2) Some of the contests may be hosted on the ASVLR site but administered by
the sponsor; in such cases, the information a user provides is passed on to
the third party as long as that user gives express consent.
Because the rules and terms of each contest can vary, all information about
each contest will be clearly posted during the event. All contests and
sweepstakes will be conducted in full accordance with United States federal and
state laws.
• Usage tracking
ASVLR plans to track user traffic patterns throughout all of our sites. However,
we will not correlate this information with data about individual users. ASVLR will not
break down overall usage statistics according to a user's domain name, browser
type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string
(information contained in every user's browser).
• Cookies
A cookie is a small data file that certain web sites write to your
hard drive when you visit them. A cookie file can contain information such
as a user ID that the site uses to track the pages you've visited. But the
only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply
yourself. A cookie can't read data off your hard disk or read cookie files
created by other sites. ASVLR plans to use cookies to track user traffic patterns
(as described above), when you register as a ASVLR member, and when you
click an ad:
Registration: when you register, ASVLR will use a cookie to
store a unique, random user ID. We do not store passwords or any personal
information about you. We use this ID to identify you anonymously in our
database and to track the pages you visit on our site. Cookies will also enable
you to enter ASVLR sites as a member without having to log on each time, and
to visit member-restricted areas of the sites. We will encrypt the user ID
for added security.
Ads: ASVLR's advertising system will deliver a one-time cookie
to better track ad impressions and click rates.
If you've set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies,
you will receive the warning message with each cookie.
You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser.
You do not need to have cookies turned on to use any ASVLR site.
2. Use of the information
ASVLR uses any information voluntarily given by our users to enhance their
experience in our network of sites, whether to provide interactive or personalized
elements on the sites or to better prepare future content based on the interests of our
users.
- As stated above, ASVLR uses information that users voluntarily provide in order
to send out electronic newsletters and to enable users to participate in polls
and message boards. We send out newsletters to subscribers on a regular schedule
(annually or semi-annually, depending on the newsletter), and occasionally send
out special editions when we think subscribers might be particularly interested
in something we are doing. ASVLR never shares newsletter mailing lists with any
third parties, including advertisers or partners.
- When we use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users
like and don't like based on traffic to those areas, ASVLR does not track what
individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This
helps us continue to build a better service for you.
- ASVLR creates aggregate reports on user demographics and traffic patterns
for advertisers and partners. This allows our advertisers to advertise more
effectively, and allows our users to receive advertisements that are pertinent
to their needs. Because ASVLR doesn't track the usage patterns of individual
users, an advertiser will never know that a specific user clicked their ad.
3. Sharing of the information
ASVLR uses the above-described information to tailor our content to suit
your needs and help our owners and advertisers better understand our audience's demographics.
This is essential to keeping our service free. We do not share information about
individual users with any third party, except in the case of some contests and
sweepstakes --and then, only with a user's express consent. ASVLR does
not control the practices of our advertisers. If you have questions about how
one of our advertisers uses information about you when you click their ad and
go to their content, please contact them directly.
4. Opt-out policy
ASVLR gives users options wherever necessary and practical. Such
choices include:
- Opting not to receive our electronic newsletters when registering for a site
- Opting not to provide certain personal information when registering for
a site or when participating in some contests (see above)
- Opting not to participate in certain interactive areas, which completely
alleviates the need for any information from our users
5. Correct/update policy
ASVLR offers owners the ability to correct or change the information collected
during registration for any listing (see above). The instructions for doing this
can be found on our registration pages.
Users may change this information at any time and as often as necessary. Users
who are experiencing problems or who have any questions about how our services
work can contact us at SkiLodging@webtv.net.
6. Delete/deactivate policy
Users may unsubscribe to any of our electronic newsletters at any time by
following the instructions contained at the end of every newsletter or contacting
us at SkiLodging@webtv.net.
Currently, ASVLR does not offer users a means by which to completely delete
personal information established at the time of registration for any site.

practices of this site, or your dealings with this Web site,
