INTRODUCING VEGA

STUBBLE INTERVIEW BY XAVIER

I met Vega in their dressing room at the Fleet Center before their set opening up for TLC. The group is made up of Eugene Williams(G-VEGA), Ahsohn Williams(A-VEGA), Tennell Williams(T-VEGA), and Jason Chenevert(J-VEGA). Here it is.

Xavier: How did you decide on the group’s name?

Vega: That was Dallas’ idea. We were sitting over his mother’s house house Christmas of 98 and we were going through a name change at the time, so we were like Vega, just for the sound of it. We said that was cool. Then we read the definition , Vega is the brightest star in the northern constellation Lyra. We’re from the north, aspiring to be stars, so it just really fit.

Xavier: You guys are all originally from Detroit, home of Motown. I’m sure the comparison are going to be made. Who do you guys compare yourselves to?

Vega: I think we have a wide range of diversity. We grew up listening to a wide range of different music from rap to country. We picked up on a lot of different types of music. Being from Detroit, more so a R&B feel, soul, Motown vibe: and we just ran with it.

Xavier: You mentioned that Dallas Austin helped you come up with the name. Dallas has also worked with groups such as Boyz II Men and ABC. I know personally when I first heard of you I made an immediate comparison to Boyz II Men. Ha s that comparison being made by others?

Vega: We’ve been compared by many groups such as Boyz II Men . We modeled a lot of our talent show experiences after them. For anybody to compare us to Boyz II Men is a honor to us. We feel very blessed to be working with a guy that worked with Boyz II Men. If we get half their success, we’ll be happy.

Xavier: Not a lot of people have heard of you yet. Why should people buy your CD?

Vega: I think that it is actually a fusion of a lot of different types of music. I think that when the average listener picks it up he can find reminiscence of Beetles, like a song we have called Glass House, it’s just a Beetles type of vibe. Then you have a R&B song, Beautiful Sexy Girl In My Life. Then you have the hard hitting up tempo Girlfriends’ Best Friend. Then you have the heartfelt, make you cry Heaven Needed You. I think it’s for all spectrums of music lovers, something for everyone.

Xavier: How did you guys get signed to Capital?

Vega: That was something that Dallas had worked out through his long range of accomplishments. With his joint venture with Freeworld, he got his label through Capital, so that was the only label to go through.

Xavier: What advice would you give to people trying to break into the business?

Vega: Do it for the love! Do not do it for the money. Be patient. Things come to those who wait. Always pray and believe in God and you can get through anything.

Xavier: Just to get to know you guys a little better, describe yourselves, who’s the wise guy, the ball buster of the group?

A. Vega: We’re all jokesters. But my brother G. Vega he’s like the conscious one of the group. The level headed one of the group. He’s on that other level when it comes to just respect, aware of how we want to come across as young men. So that’s what we get from him. (G. Vega blushes) I know you never knew I felt like that.

G. Vega: In my opinion A. Vega is, he’s like the mediator. If someone has a problem, everybody takes the time to sit down and weigh both sides like a lawyer. He constantly has us take a look at it objectively.

J. Vega: My opinion of T. Vega is that he is the one that brings everything together, the foundation of the group, as far as his vocal sound, his vocal ability, the one that’s the more street sound of the group. He’s a jokester, you know the funny guy.

T. Vega: Jason (J. Vega), he’s the baby of the group. He brings the spontaneity, the youthful energy, you know the icing on the cake.

Xavier: If I was to go to your place and look at what’s on your CD player right now who would I find?

Vega: Otis Redding, Jay Z, Dr. Dre, the O Jay’s, Chris Gains. We like it all, as long as it’s good.

Xavier: If you couldn’t be involved with music, what would you be doing right now?

Vega: Music.

Xavier: Okay, but put it this way, what’s your second love.

Vega: We would all be working for ourselves. There is so many things you can do. You can do whatever you want to do and to be having someone tell you what to do is not on my agenda.

Xavier: What is the most difficult of challenging thing you’ve had to face in your career?

Vega: Challenging, I would have to say sitting around and waiting. We were blessed for patiences. We were patience for what, nine years before we got our actual break. We were blessed with great families too, they helped us weather the storm. We thought we should give up and they told us we should keep pushing. They always gave us a lot of support.

Xavier: What one final thing would you like to say to our readers?

Vega: Look out for the Life on Earth album, it will be in stores early Spring and our website is www.4vega.com. We got a lot of stuff to get out there so you will be seeing a lot coming from Vega definitely. On a conscious level, everybody just be more respectful of the world, love each other.
