AC/DC Thunder Rock
(Frantic Films)
Here we have a collection of interviews with Brian Johnson and Agnus Young from the legendary hard rock band AC/DC. There are 5 different interviews 2 are in black & white and 2 are with Brian only. You get a real feel for them as people as well as insights on the music and how they see themselves. The sound and picture quality are considered grainy but this is great stuff for those who call themselves fans of the band. I found out that Brian Johnson played soccer for a US team that beat an Italian team. Who woulda thunk that?***RB
BLONDIE-Best of Musicladen Live
(Encore Music Entertainment)
Another in the series of live appearences from the German radio station Radio Bremen. In the late 70’s and early 80’s Blondie was considered one of the original New Wave bands and was very successful. Although they are still playing live shows, this video from 1978 captures the energy from the era of CBGB’s and The Rat Most of the songs are from Blondie’s 2nd album and 5 from the 1st album including “Look Good In Blue” “In The Flesh” and “X-Offender”. Cool beans.***DB
CINEMA BEER BELLY
(Hopeless Records Video)
A very cool compilation of punk/ska bands in yet another beer oriented title from this small California label. It starts with a real cool 3D video from Mustard Plug “Everything Girl”. The 3D glasses that come with it are a must for it. Very cool all by itself but you also get 19 other videos from other Hopeless acts and other cool punk indie labels. Ya gotta love Boston’s The Queers doing “Tamara is A Punk” and “Fishing” by Superchunk. I highly reccomend this for fans of current punk music. Fun and very indie feel. No MTV!!***RB
Dr. HOOK & THE MEDICINE SHOW
The Best Of Musicladen Live
(Encore Music Entertainment)
Back in the 70’s these guys were a popular act. Well they are big rock singers with golden fingers and they love them everywhere they go. They sing about beauty for 10K a show. OK! Here for what reason I do not know. 9 Songs of which many are very campy. “Sylvia’s Mother” is the best song, I’m sorry but it is.***DB
KISS-Killer KISS
(Frantic Films)
This one is probably a must for KISS fans but many might have it. This is one of those public domain things so it starts with an in costume interview on Tom Snyder. This was right at the height of the mania this band caused .(killer) The collection of tv interviews is interesting as well. If you watch those KISS fans talking about them on cable then you would be better off seeing this. See KISS talk about themselves all original members. Cool collector piece.***DB
LENNON-The Day The Music Died
(Frantic Films)
This collection is also subtitled The Death Reports and it’s fitting. You get a young Ted on Nightline giving the live reports and other TV news items from one network to another. Just as disturbing an event as it was when it happened, its like reliving the night with tv reception as good as it was then. A real piece of time captured on video that has a real feel. Disturbing that it was released, very sad and mournful experience.***DB
PINK FLOYD-The Dark Side
(Frantic Films)
The video is a very tragic story of Syd Barrett and the band Pink Floyd. If you are a fan of them you will find this extremely interesting. The band has been around so long you will find out a lot about the early years. The interviews reveal how each member or associuate taking credit for everthing they did as if it was all genius especially Syd.***DB
REVEILLE-Permanent
(Electra)
Yeah its the “Take a Look around” tune from this hiphop metal band. They rock whatever place they are playing on this video as the pit was moving. Maybe it will be on MTV at 2AM.***DB
GG ALLIN & The MURDER JUNKIES-Hated
(Stranger Than Fiction)
This DVD version has been remastered with 1 hour of previously unreleased material from GG’s final performance. A shock to most this is not a video for the faint of heart. Extreme in every sense of the word. On DVD you can stop and reference all “The Good Parts”. the concert footage, his funeral, birthday party, and plenty of shitting, pissing and all that stuff you need.***RB
JIMI HENDRIX-Rainbow Bridge
(Rhino)
This old hippie flick is disguised in a box that makes you think its Hendrix live. It has about 12 minutes of live tunes from one of his last shows. The movie is boring but thanks to DVD technology you can watch just the live music and forget the cosmic hippie talk shit.***DB
