Characters Years Before the Dragonball saga began...

Bardock is Goku's Father Years ago, Freeza took over the Saiyan planet and used its inhabitants, the Saiyans, to act as mecenaries to destroy other planets. On one battle, Bardock is with his teammates and wipes out another planet. But, Tooro, a surviving member of the dying planet, curses Bardock with the ability to see his cursed future. Tooro is killed and Bardock recovers back in the Saiyan planet. Meanwhile, Bardock's son, Kakarot, is born. In addition, Freeza begins to grow tired of seeing the Saiyans as one of his henchmen avises that the Saiyans can become a threat when banded together. At this time, Vegeta is a kid and has a high energy level for his age. He asks Freeza to send him to another planet to destroy and leaves with Nappa. As Bardock recovered, his teammates leave to destroy another planet without him. After regaining consciousness, Bardock learns what has happened and leaves to join his teammates. At the planet, all goes normal until Bardock sees his teammates dead. A dying Saiyan is found by Bardock. From him, Bardock learns of Freeza's plot to destroy the Saiyan planet. Next, Bardock encounters some of Freeza's henchmen and fights. But, Bardock sees his son growing up in his head and loses concentration. Despite the headache, Bardock manages to defeat all the henchmen except for Dodoria. Dodoria blows a single fireball and defeats Bardock. Meanwhile, Kakarot is sent to the planet Earth to destroy it when he grows up. Bardock survives, but is badly injured. Despite this, he travels back to the planet Vegeta to warn the other Saiyans of Freeza's plot. Bardock finds and tells his comrades, but the Saiyans think of the plot as a joke and mock Bardock. Bardock is angry and decides that he must change the future... alone. Freeza's spaceship approaches and Bardock flies toward it in rage. (Meanwhile, Coola's ship flies away on the other side.) Hundreds of Freeza's henchmen are despatched from his ship and attack Bardock. Bardock defeats those who fly at him. Freeza exits his ship and laughes at Bardock. Bardock does his final fireball in an attempt to destroy Freeza and alter the fate of his planet. Freeza laughes some more and easily creates a super fireball. His fireball overwhelms Bardock's fireball and continues flying towards the Saiyan planet. Bardock, the planet Vegeta, and all in its path (including Freeza's henchmen who were sent to destroy Bardock) are destroyed. Bardock sees the future one last time before he dies. He sees his planet get destroyed... He sees his son growing up... And he sees a grown up Kakarot encounter Freeza... And dies a happy death... Vegeta and Nappa were at another planet at the time, so they survive. They are told that their planet was hit by a meteor and destroyed, but Vegeta gives no signs of concern. Kakarot's two other brother (Raditz and Taurus) were elsewhere and safe. As for Kakarot, he lands on planet Earth and is found by Son Gohan. Gohan adopts Kakarot and names his new grandson Gokou.

Thus, begins the magnificient story of Dragonball...

Goku is the hero of Dragonball Z. He is a peaceful, good-natured, honest, trusting, and protective soul. He is also the most powerful warrior on Earth and the first to become a Super Saiyan in over 1000 years. Having honed his skills and strengthened his spirit to a level never achieved by any being on Earth, Goku is able to fly, shoot energy beams from his hands, move at incredible speeds and, when in a pinch, power-up to a fighting level so high it creates an energy aura around his body and makes him turn blond with green eyes... becoming in effect a walking nuclear war. Goku hasn't learned these skills just for fun, his life is forced down this path as he battles the evil Saiyans in the final battle to save the Earth. When the Saiyans arrive on Earth it is a shock in more ways than one. Goku finds out the mysterious secret of his own past: he is Saiyan formerly known as Kakarot who was sent to Earth as a baby with the mission to conquer the planet. Luckily for Earth a near fatal head injury "scrambles" his programming and instead of becoming a destructive super-warrior he becomes an innocent pure-of-heart defender of Earth. Goku was raised by a peaceful, wise old man named Gohan, after whom Goku later names his first son. Goku is always there to help his family and friends and he is very protective of them. If he has a weakness, it is his trusting nature. Goku has many powerful fighting techniques including the powerful Kamehameha Wave and the Kaio-ken which he learns from King Kai. His last and most powerful weapon is an immensely powerful energy ball which garners energy from all sources on the planet, concentrates it into one sphere, and then releases it in one mighty swoop. This ball can be used only once and must be guided carefully for it can destroy the planet if used inappropriately. Gohan, Goku and Chi-Chi's first son, was named after his adoptive grandfather. Physically, he resembles a young Goku right down to the tail and the propensity to become an uncontrollable raging Giant Monkey, while spiritually, he is good and pure of heart as well. Because of his protective mother, Gohan starts out as a wimp, but when the Earth is threatened, he reveals his tremendous potential as a fighter and uncontrollably "powers up" in order to rescue his father from a desperate situation. Because of this he is forced into training in preperation for the arrival of the Saiyans. Gohan's training is at the hands of Piccolo because his father is learning the fighting expertise of King Kai. Piccolo and Gohan develop a special bond, which causes Piccolo to step in front of Nappa's mighty blast to save Gohan's life. Gohan's loss of nerve in the battle against the Saiyans cost all his friends dearly. But he is determined to make up for his cowardice by traveling to the planet Namek to find the Namekian Dragon Balls and wish his friends back to life. Gohan's tremedous power is accounted for by the incredible mix between Earthing and Saiyan, which produces an even stronger being than either Human or Saiyan alone. Even though Gohan becomes the most powerful non-fused character, he never attains the love of fighting that Goku has. Without a Kaio Upgrade, Gohan would have become one of the weaker fighters because he doesn't continue his training as he gets older. As an adult he marries a human girl he meets in High School, Videl. With Videl he has 1 fourth Saiyan daughter...Pan. Raditz is Goku's older brother, also a weak Saiyan at birth but still stronger than Goku when they first meet. Raditz arrives on Earth in the beginning of the DBZ series to see if his younger brother was able to conquer it. When he discovers his brother has turned to the side of good, he kidnaps Goku's son, Gohan, and tells him to kill 100 earthlings or Gohan gets killed. With the help of Piccolo, Goku's arch nemises, they defeat and kill Raditz. However, Goku is killed while holding down Raditz in this battle when Piccolo shoots his Makankosappo(Or the american version, special beam cannon.), killign them both. Vegeta is a prince of the planet Vegeta, and is the most powerful and feared of all the Saiyans . Cunning, ruthless, and cruel in battle, he enjoys toying with any helpless creature who opposes him. He comes to Earth with Nappa, another Saiyan, to conquer the planet. Vegeta and Nappa underestimate the Z fighters by thinking the mission will take only three days, when in fact, they never succeed. Vegeta gets so fed up with Nappa that he mercilessly kills him. Vegeta looses the battle on Earth, but escapes death because of Goku's generosity. Vegeta goes to Namek in search of the Dragon Balls with the wish for immortality. Discovering he cannot defeat Frieza alone, he fights with Gohan and Krillin, and then with Goku and Piccolo when they arrive. He eventually marries Bulma, a human, and has 2 half-Sayain kids also...Trunks, and Bra. Nappa Vegeta's right hand man. A large, bald, and strong Sayain, but very stupid. He is killed by Vegeta early in the Dragon Ball Z series, shortly after his first appearance, because of his constant carelessness. Nail is the personal guardian of Guru, the eldest Namek and father of all the Nameks. His role as personal guardian is very important because Guru is very ill. If Guru should die, the Dragon Balls will cease to exist on Namek. Like all Nameks, Nail is aware of the severe consequences of allowing the Dragon Balls to fall into the wrong hands, and is willing to do whatever it takes to prevent this from happening. Nail is a very skilled fighter and later fuses with Piccolo. Yajirobe is one good guy that is not interested in fighting. He is perfectly content being on the sidelines, usually with food in his mouth, instead of being in the battle. He doesn't willingly go near danger and isn't willling to go in the Pendulum Room to train to fight the Saiyans. Yajirobe does come through in the end when he sneaks up behind the Giant Vegeta Monkey and cuts off his tail. This ends Vegeta's metamorphosis, greatly reducing his strength, and allows the Z fighters to win the day. Broli The one and only "The Legendary Super Saiyan". Broli is the son of a low level Saiyajin, Paragus. Broli is part of a legacy that happens every 10,000 years. An extremely powerful Saiyan is born. We only see Broli appear during the movies and never actually enters the Manga or Anime storyline. During his time in the movies, he is always in Super Sayain level 2 and a half. Taurus, has only appeared in one Dragon Ball Z-Movie #3, where he was also killed. He arrived on earth with the intentions of destroying it by growing a "Tree of Might". The purpose of a "Tree of Might" is to drain all the energy of the planet in order to form this neat little fruit. When someone eats it there energy goes way up! Taurus was almost successful, and nearly succeeded in defeating Son Goku with the power gained by eating this fruit, but he was quickly finished after Goku used the remaining energy of the Tree to create a Genki Dama (or spirit bomb) which was used for Taurus' destruction. Goten is Goku's second child. Unlike Gohan, Chi Chi does not force him to do as well in Academics. But he too is powerful, because at the early age of 7, Goten is able to turn Super Saiyan. The only disadvantage that Goten has is that he is never able to improve upon his power, and show his full potential, therefore he never has the ability to surpass Super Saiyan Level 1. Trunks is Vegeta's son. Androids 17 and 18 were released. Android 17 killed Dr. Gero and began the androids began their reign of terror. Gokou faced the androids, but suffered a heart attack. Without the proper medicine, Gokou died. Without Gokou, the Z warriors were too weak to stand a chance against the androids. In turn, Vegeta, Yamcha, Tenshin-han, can Klilyn were killed in battle. Chaos wrecked everywhere. Cities were destroyed by the androids just for the fun of it. Many were killed without reason. A few years later... Trunks is now a teenager and Gohan is grown up. Master Roshi, his turtle, and Oolong spent their days hiding in a submarine. Chi-Chi and the Ox-King lived in fear and mourn over Gokou. Bulma learned how to live the terrible environment and goes about his everyday business. Anroids 17 and 18 continue to destroy everything in their path. Their victims tried calling the army, but the federal troops have already been killed by the androids. Trunks is riding home with Bulma. There is a radio report about another disaster the androids caused. Trunks becomes angered with rage at such injustice. He flies off to the devastated city and anger continues to build because he knows there is nothing he can do; he knows that he is too weak to fight the androids. Gohan descends in front of Trunks and agrees to train Trunks. The two head back to Bulma's house. Gohan and Trunks spend days in training. Gohan is trying to teach Trunks how to reach Super Saiyan level, but Trunks cannot, despite all his anger. Trunks gets distressed, but Gohan continues to encourage Trunks. Meanwhile, Androids 17 and 18 continue their destruction over the world. Gohan and Trunks decide to face the androids. Gohan is standing up against Android 17, but Trunks is getting kicked around by Android 18. Gohan flies over to aid Trunks and has to fight both androids now. The androids throws huge fireballs at Gohan and Trunks and fly away. Gohan wakens and struggles to get his body over to the unconsicous Trunks. Gohan is badly injured and lost an arm in battle. Gohan finally reaches Trunks, struggles to get to his bag of senzu beans, and discovers that there is only one piece left. He feeds it into Trunks' mouth and collapses. Trunks awakens and quickly gets Gohan back to Bulma. Gohan recovers, but is missing a limb now. He continues to train Trunks, but Trunks still cannot reach Super Saiyan level. Days go by, and the androids are still a menace in endangering the Earth. Gohan and Trunks decide to face the androids again. Trunks feels ready to go, but Gohan hits him behind his neck and knocks him out. Gohan knows that Trunks is still not ready, and goes to fight Androids 17 and 18 himself. Trunks awakens and discovered what has happened. He quickly flies over to the city the Androids were in. The city is destroyed, and Gohan is lying on the ground... dead. There is a storm. Rain is falling hard. Trunks looks at the dead Gohan and becomes enraged. He screams and finally reaches Super Saiyan level. Trunks decides to fight the androids again and encounters them. He quickly discovers that even though he is in Super Saiyan form, he is still no match against Androids 17 and 18. The androids kick Trunks around and everything slowly goes blank. Trunks awakens to find himself bandaged in his bed. Bulma had taken his body home. Bulma tells Trunks that she has been working on a time machine and tells Trunks to go back in time to before Gokou got his heart attack. Bulma gives him heart attack medicine for Gokou to prevent his death so that the whole future would change. Trunks agrees. He gets in the time machine capsule that has the word "Hope" painted on it and travels to the past. Bulma waves goodbye and wishes him good luck. Trunks Story ends here Trunks traveled back to where the ending of the Freeza Series took place. He kills Freeza and all of Freeza's crew and introduces himself to the Z warriors. Here is where we first encounter Trunks in the Dragonball Z series. Everything we know of him happens. He gives Gokou the heart attack medicine that Bulma gave him and saves Gokou's life. Then, he trains with Gokou and Vegeta. It is now the Cell Series. Trunks (now known as Future Trunks because the Trunks in the timeline we know of is a baby) joins the struggle against Cell. Cells kills Trunks, but Trunks is resurrected by a wish Dende made for Shenlong. Trunks, now even stronger from all the battles and training, heads back to his time. To his dismay, nothing in the future was changed. However, he is a lot stronger now. He confronts the anroids of his timeline again and easily kills them now. Then, he sees form 1 Cell and easily kills him too. There is peace in his timeline now. Bra is one of the two female Sayain. She does have some Sayain power because she is Vegeta's daughter but she is never trained to use it well. She has probably had the easiest life out of all of her family and friends because, Vegeta and her older brother, Trunks, do all the fighting. Pan, who should be one of the weakest Sayain since she only has 1/4 Saiyan heritage, actually turns to be a great help. Unlike Bra, she is trained well, and also has some of her father, Gohan's, potential ability. She mainly only fights in GT where she is at the age of 12 helping Goku recover the Black Star Dragon Balls. Pan has still never reached a Super Saiyan Level, but probably does have the ability to if given enough time. Bulma has been around from the beginning. In Dragon Ball, she was a mixed up teenager with blue hair, a pink outfit, and a personality quirk that wouldn't allow her to shut up for a second. She was immature, emotional, self-centered, impatient, argumentative, boy-crazy and given to fits of hysteria. Now, she's blossomed into a woman with a lot of the same personality quirks, but the team would never get along with out her. Bulma is a mechanical genius who can operate and fix anything. She is the one that discovers the capabilities of the Saiyan Scouter and enhances it for their own use. It enables her to save the day more than once. She also takes the lead in finding a space ship to go to Namek and joins Krillin and Gohan in the journey. Yamcha is a longtime friend and ally of Goku's that possesses great fighting spirit. He is usually accompanied by his devoted cat companion Puar, and he is characterized by his intense fear of women. He is anxious and willing to be trained by Kami and to join the battle against the Saiyans, even though he understands that the odds are against them. In the heat of the battle Yamcha volunteers to fight the Saibamen instead of Krillin because Krillin has already been brought back to life by the Dragon Balls once, which is the limit. This good looking warrior still has an attraction for Bulma but stood her up the last time he had a date with her because he didn't have enough money to take her out. Thus, he is hesitant to see her again. Bulma apparently forgives this and contemplates marraige to him, but then Yamcha is eliminated by the Saibamen. Fortunately for Yamcha, he can be brought back to life by the Dragon Balls. Kamesennin Mutenroushi the dirty old man with the turtle shell on his back. Wise, powerful, and subject to severe nose bleeds. NOTE: Sennin means "master", so the old man is "turtle master." Gyuu Maou Magical Cow King. Chi Chi's dad. Massive man with extended goggles over his eyes. Well-known leader in this land, and highly respected. Chi Chi Gyuu Maou's young daughter. An attractive airhead with a throwing fin attached to her helmet. Appears frequently in later volumes. Dr. Willow is a mad scientist who was frozen in a glacier for 50 years than wished to be reawakened by his assistant. Dr. Willow's body was destroyed but his brain survived. Dr. Willow is now in search for a new body so he kidnaps Mr. Roshi (who was fifty years ago the strongest warrior). After he finds out that Mr. Roshi isn't the strongest warrior any more and Goku is he goes after Goku, and while trying to do that he takes over Piccolo's mind. Krillin has been Goku's best friend since they studied martial arts together under Master Roshi as kids. Krillin provides comic relief in tense situations as he tries to keep up with Goku and some of the other more powerful warriors. But don't get the idea that he's a helpless buffoon. A good fighter on his own accord, he's always there to help Goku. He can and has saved his friend's life more than once. In fact, Krillin unleashes an incredibly powerful energy blast shaped like a flying disc that literally slices through mountaintops. Krillin is incredibly dedicated to his friends, especially Goku, and holds friendship in high value. He is willing to fight against the Saibamen and Saiyans even though he doesn't want to die. Goku encourages Krillin to have confidence in his own abilities as Krillin learns to be a remarkable fighter -- that is, for an Earthling.. Krillin volunteers to be one of the crew going to Namek to gather the Namekian Dragon Balls. On this journey he once again gets to prove his loyalty, courage, and fighting skills. His power is enhanced even further by the eldest Namekian, Guru, when he awakens the sleeping power within Krillin. He will need every ounce of this power he has to fight against the evil forces assembled on Namek. Tenshinhan 3-eyed student of Tsurusennin. Tall, muscular, very strong fast, and nasty. In the TV series, he is shown, with Chao-zu, to be a thief and fraud (he brings a certain monster into town, the monster causes damage, and Tenshinhan then gets paid money for chasing the monster away.) Chauzu is a little white looking fallow with red cheeks. Is a loyal friend to Tsurusennin. And would not hesitate to jump on to nappa's back and self destruct to save his friends. Piccolo is a Nemic that starts out in the DB series as a bad guy and latter on he finds himself being closer and closer to Goku as when the Sayans arrive Piccolo needs help and joins Goku in a fight against them. After Goku died he decides to train Gohan, Kakaroots half Sayan son. To fight the Vegetta and Nappa. Freeza Lizard-like alien. Very strong, and has deceived Vegetta . First appears while riding a hover-chair. Freeza has four forms as I remember and kills Krillin.Wants the Dragon Balls to wish for immortality. Dodoria Freeza's fat, ugly assistant. Very strong, but rather dumb. Was sent to another dimension by Vegetta. Zarbon Freeza's beautiful alien co-assistant. Stronger than Dodoria. Also faster, and more vain. Gets killed be Vegeta. Dende the young Namek-jin that Gohan saves from Freeza. Has the ability to heal people. The Ginyu Force a group of silly super mercenaries hired by Freeza to help get the Namek Dragon Balls. Designed as a parody of the Japanese 5-man rubber-suit team TV shows. First mentioned in book 22. The names these five aswome warriors are Cream, Butter, Juice, Gourd, and Ginyu . #19 Dr. Gero's android. Comes from the alternate future. Fat, with a pointy head, looks vaguely Chinese. Steals people's energy through the contacts in his hands. #20 AKA -- Dr. Gero. Works for Red Ribbon. Came back in time with #19 to destroy the planet. Gets his energy the same way #19 does. Old, mean-looking, with very long silver hair. #17 The young male android created by Dr. Gero. In Trunk's future, #17 and 18 both terrorize Earth, and destroy everyone before travelling to the past to kill Vegeta and the rest of the heroes. Wears a Red Ribbon jersey, torn jeans, and a yellow scarf. Has earrings and shoulder-length black hair. VERY strong. Is consumed by Cell in a later volume. #18 Female android companion to #17. Is also consumed by Cell, but later gets spit back out, and becomes slightly more normal. Settles down with Krillin and has his baby. #16 The big, good-looking hulk with red eyes. Originally fights alongside #17 and #18. Gets repaired by Bulma and becomes a good guy. Gentle by nature, he dies in the fight against Cell. Cell The biological weapon creation made by Dr. Gero. Stole Trunks' time machine to arrive in the past. Contains some of the cell samples from most of the heroes. Just needs to consume #17 and #18 to become complete. First-Stage: He looks like a cross between a lizard, a scorpion, and a human. Second-Stage: He's consumed #17, and now looks less lizard-like, more human, and more cockroach-like. Is now much more powerful. Third-Stage: After consuming #18, he's now a gleaming white, sleak humanoid, with a touch of lizard. He is virtually undefeatable, can destroy the universe, and has all of the abilities that all of the heroes have, including Kamehame-ha. Majin Buu A great, magical creature that Babi Dee wants to reactivate. He needs lots of combat energy (with a twist of evil) to wake up. Kaiou-shin is terrified of him, and with Kibit, has been trying to locate Buu for a very long time. Buu is first shown in a large nutshell, located in the bottom level of a rocket that's buried out in the countryside. When released, Buu resembles the Marshmellow Man from the Ghost Busters movie. Buu is like a spoiled baby, with awesome magical powers. His favorite pastime is to turn his victims into snack foods, and then eat them. (AKA: Buu, or Magical Creature Buu.) Gotenks The character that results when Goten and Trunks complete their Fusion. Has an outfit similar to Buu's, and while initially cool-looking, is still no match for the monster. SSJ-3 Gotenks: In Fusion form, Gotenks can switch to Super Saiya-jin 3; his hair grows down to his butt, his face becomes leaner, and his eyebrow ridges stand out more. In terms of power, he completely dwarfs Piccolo, and easily rivals Goku's SSJ-3 level. Goku comments that Gotenks has achieved SSJ-3 long, long before he ever could, and much more easily.
