Mia Hamm is to me the best women's soccer player in the world.
There's no argument when it comes to her
power, it’s something the whole world witnessed when she lead the powerful U.S. women's soccer team into
the 1999 Women's World Cup!!
Position: Forward
Height: 5-5 (1.65 m)
Weight: 125 (57 kg)
Born: March 17, 1972, in Selma, Alabama
Hometown: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
College: University of North Carolina
It is difficult to talk about women's soccer in America and not talk about Mia Hamm. She has won U.S. Soccer's
Female Athlete of the Year Award in 1994 and also in 1995. During her years at the University of North
Carolina, she led the Tar Heals in four national championships, while earning all-America honors three years
and finishing as the ACC's all-time leading scorer. She has also appeared in several NIKE television and print
ads.
Still, Mia Hamm is a bit of a contradiction. While to her opponents shes knowen as laser-eyed competitor who
wouldn't hesitate to run past them -- or through them -- to get to a ball, but many know her as soft spoken, even
shy off the field. If her power and grace are her defining traits, then her age is the best kept secret. It seems impossible that
she could be in her twenties! She has made an amazing amount of contributions to women's soccer to be that young.
The truth is, she got a very early start.
She made the American Woman’s national team at the age of 15 on August 3, 1987 her starting game was in
China, there she became the youngest person ever to play soccer on the American men's or women's national
team.
She didn't score her first goal until three years later, but they have been adding up ever since. She has the record of most goals scored by any male or female. WAY TO GO MIA!!!
The Women's National Team has also just recieved the ultimate prize!! they recently won the Women's World Cup! They defeated China in a shootout! I'm sooooo happy *S*
