Game Of The Week

Record: 1-1

San Francisco = 28 New Orleans = 21

It went from an ugly game to an ugly win. But it's still a win, even though Steve Young has so many bruises, he can't count them all. After this game, it is clear that the Niners are not the team they used to be, but neither are their opponents. The Saints, Falcons, and Rams are no longer the teams that anyone can just roll over. They actually have talent (as seen in Sunday's game). But so do we. With the additions of Newsome and Robert Williams from KC, the Niners are fixing their current cornerback problem. Sunday's hero Lance Schulters has solved the free safty conflict singlehandedly after his game winning play. Unlike the departed Hanks, Schulters can make tackles AND interceptions. But that's on defense, what about the struggling offensive line? Well, they just need a little more time to get in sinc. It's not their fault they've been shuffled around more times than a deck of cards in Vegas. Then again, how much more can Young take before they gel together? Keep in mind you can't blame the inexperienced Jermey Newberry either. I mean it's really his first year in the league and he needs help. Don't dismiss the guy outright either because I think with time he'll be good (I like him because he's from my hometown, my mom was his third grade teacher, and I played softball with his sister, so let me tell you that he's one big and nasty dude and soon he'll be rippin heads off). Another bright note in Sunday's little escapade was the supurb play of running back Charlie Garner. His never die attitude and Tazmanian Devil spin moves get many of the niner drives alive. Folks we may have found a answer to the blank spot in the offense left by Garrison Hearst's injury last year. Oh and Owens played pretty well two with five catches for 49 yards and two touchdowns (including the game tier). So don't fret Niner faithful, this is a step in the right direction and no matter how ugly, it was still a win.

Jacksonville = 41 San Francisco = 3

Is it the end of an era? A wake up call for fans that expect too much from their football team? Or was it just a good old fashion ass kicking? Well it could be all of the above, but don't fret Niner faithful, it'll all turn out alright. Although Young had his worst game of his entire career, he did throw to my boy Terrell Owens (who consequently didn't have the best game of his life either) five times for 76 yards. That would be the highlight folks. So yes, this game was a big disaster, but traditionally, our Niners have had bad opening day games. I mean even look at last year, we could only beat the Jets in over time and the year before was that disaster in Tampa Bay. And jacksonville is tough this year. Keep in mind not 41-3 tough, but many have picked them as this years AFC champs. And I can hear all of those saything, blah, blah, 49ers can't beat a team with a winning record last year, can't do it now either, blah, blah. Well first of all, last year we lost to the Bills (who were 10-6 last year), the Packers (who almost always kick our ass), The Falcons (who went to the damn Super bowl), and the Patriots (who were also 10-6). So it's not like we lost to crappy teams. So really, everyone calm down and get off "It's the end of the world!!" bandwagon, cuz it'll be ok. All we need is a little help in the secondary, better run blocking, and for Jerry Rice to get over his damn phobia of the ball and catch a few next week. Remember, they may not be great, but they're still better than most. (Oh yeah, and the Raiders lost to Green Bay in the last minute of the game.. hahahahahaha!!!)
