Opening Remarks (Vicky Bonnell)
- Club now has 142 members, 97
families. Membership is still growing
- During the last year, many new
people coordinated events. All the events went very well. Vicky asked
that if anyone has any suggestions to improve events, please pass them
on to her or any member of the Executive.
- For example, the 2nd
annual Midnight-to-Midnight Ultramarathon (MMU) was a great success. A
total of 36 people registered and 15 people finished all legs.
- Vicky has an album of pictures
from previous Flatlanders runs. Included with the agenda for this
meeting is a list of winners from 1992 to 1999. There are a few results
missing. If anyone can fill in the gaps, please inform Vicky.
Summaries from each Executive Member
- President – Vicky
gave her comments in the opening remarks.
- Treasurer – Gay
reviews the 1999/2000 Financial Report. It shows that revenues are down
from last year, but the year-end balance is higher than last year.
Revenues are down because the Club has not actively followed up with
people who have not paid fees. Anyone who has not paid for 1999 membership
is asked to forward the fees to Gay.
- Newslettter – Milos
published 3 issues of the newsletter last year. He will try for 4 this
year. He notes that cost of each issue, including the postage, is
approximately $100.
- Secretary – Rick has
nothing to report to the meeting.
Elections
- There are no serious nominations
(Thanks, Scott, for nominations of the less-than-serious variety) for new
people to assume Executive positions. Brian Brodie nominates Vicky Bonnell
for President. All current members of the Executive are willing to submit
their names to carry on for another term. Motion is put forward to accept
entire Executive Committee for another year. Vote is unanimous in favour.

- Annual Regina-Lumsden Run
(Sunday, April 30) - Carlos Germann will co-ordinate.
- Annual Fort Qu’Appelle/Echo
(Sunday, May 7) - Milos Kostic will co-ordinate.
- Longest Day Family Picnic
(Wednesday, June 21) – Dennis Weist will co-ordinate.
- Surprise runs (various dates
to be announced) – Annie Rogoschewsky and Gay Renouf will co-ordinate.
- Annual Harvest Moon Run (Full
moon in September) – Rose Ann Reitmeier will co-ordinate.
- Jingle Bell Run (November) –
In absentia, Gary O’Connor is nominated and unanimously voted in to act
as co-ordinator for this event.
- Shortest Day Run (Sunday,
December 17) – Vicky Bonnell will co-ordinate.
- Christmas Dinner (Wednesday,
December 13) – Brian Duckett will co-ordinate.
- Red Dress Run (Waskimo Winter
Carnival, February 2001) – Daryl Mailander will co-ordinate.
- Group Marathons
- Winnipeg, June 18
- Edmonton, August 20
- Twin Cities (Daryl suggests we
try to get a group together for 2001, perhaps charter a bus)
- Amsterdam, October 15
- Loop-the-Lake(?), B.C.,
August. There are various distances available from 5 km to a marathon and
a half. Milos is going. He will get additional information and let people
know more about it if they are interested.
- Canadian Death Race, August
long weekend. This is a 125 km relay over challenging terrain which even
includes crossing a major river by raft. Gay will get additional
information.
- Jasper Banff Relay (June 3-4)
- Our team has been drawn for
this year. We have submitted team in OPEN category because we do not have
enough committed ladies to enter as a mixed team. Each participant must
pay $100 to register for the race. Vicky had to give 10 names to submit
our entry. There are seven extra spots on the team which will be available
on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Kananaskis (June 24)
- This is a 12 hour relay race
that requires 10 participants. Unfortunately the race is the day prior to
the Flatlanders. Vicky suggests that this would be a good club event next
year. Flatlanders could be scheduled around this so that they don’t
conflict. With enough interest, we could possibly put in two teams.
- Other?
- Annie suggests that we
consider a group goes to Melissa’s race in Banff. Beautiful scenery and
well organised. Race is held in September.

Partnership with Running Room
- Vicky has had discussion with
Running Room to partner with them on events. We may put up an RRRC
bulletin board in the store. We will join with them for social runs on
Wednesdays and Sundays. It was decided at the meeting that, effective
immediately, we will meet for our runs on these days at the store. Start
times will be same as theirs; 8:30 a.m. on Sundays and 6:00 p.m. on
Wednesdays.
Questions / Suggestions
- Milos – Are we going to do
something about getting some sponsorship from the Running Room?
- Daryl answers. For
races, Running Room will provide T-shirt design, numbers, run the
registrations, donate some prizes. In return, they will expect that the
registration drop-off and race kit pick-up be done at the store.
- Carlos – Will the club
consider participation as a team in Dragon Boat festival?
- Cost is $600 to
register a team. This includes three practices. Additional cost for
additional practices. The race is held on Labour Day weekend in
September. We would need to have 22 people (minimum of 8 females) to
enter a team. About 7 people indicate they would be interested in
participating if the club sponsored a team. Vicky asks Milos to publish
the information in the next newsletter, and send out an email, to find
out how many members are interested in this.
- Norm – Can the club organize
occasional events on Saturdays? Some people have other commitments on
Wednesdays and Sundays and can’t join in events on these days.
- Vicky says we’ll try
to get some runs scheduled for Saturday.
- Rick – We need to
communicate information better to our members.
- Club will use email more to
disseminate information to members. Milos asks that club members let him
know what is your email addresses if you have one. The club also has a
website, courtesy of Gary O’Connor. The URL is www.reginaroadrunners.com
- There is some concern that
people without Internet access will not get information. The club will not
exclusively rely on Internet based communication. It will continue to
publish the newsletter, will try to get the bulletin board setup at the
Running Room, and use other techniques to disseminate information to
members.
