SFA CRAZED DOG RUGBY
NEWS

October 01, 2000
This past weekend we traveled North to play the Division 1 Eagles at UNT in Denton.  And I am VERY happy to report that SFA did remarkably well.  Playing with a mixture of vets and rookies against a total first side for UNT we played a very tight match and coming up short on the score 27-21.  But the score was the only place a defeat could be found.  We played in UNT's end of the field most of the game and had many sustained drives.  This is to take nothing away from UNT, they are a very good team and played a great match.  They however had the good fortune of having already played a few matches/scrimmages.  This was our first and an especially big step for the many rookies we have.  Our rookies not only got experience but they shined.  There effort, there play, there conditioning, there aggresivness, all superb.  I can think of only one typical rookie mistake that they made, that of not running straight ahead, but that was solved quickly with great results.  Things are certainly looking bright for SFA.  In the second game we borrowed two players from UNT and fielded a team that put on a dominating performance.  With Mike Davis scoring two tries in this match.  The party afterwards was really great and we all wish to express our utmost gratitude to UNT for there hospitality and sportsmanship.  A great time was had by all and we look forward to returning the favor at RUGBYFEST.  That's it for now.  Stay tuned SFA has big things in store.

Two weeks in to the season here and we have a consistant turnout at practice.  Veterans are getting back in shape of course and the rookies are picking up the game remarkably quickly.  They seem well ahead of past rookie classes.  Practices are flowing with the continuity usually not seen till after a month or two at least.  Let's hope it keeps up.  Now if the heat would only let up a bit.  Hottest day in 91 years Thursday at practice, whew. Everything is falling in to place.  Being a veteran I am pleased with all of this but I am personally getting anxious to play some, get in some matches.  Bring on the Alumni! (Sept. 16)  But till then I'll just relive some past matches and moments in my head.  With the right amount of embelishment in my favor or course. Later.

Welcome to another season of SFA Rugby.  Practice has begun here at SFA and we've had a good showing of new players out.  We're doing out best to show them why we love rugby and why they should too.  Let's hope they get the hunger and stick around.  We've had most of our veterans out of course, but there are a few missing in action.  If you're out there guys, you know when you know where, get there.  We're still tying up loose ends with our schedule and when it's done I'll try and get it up.  But for now hopes are high and things look good.  I'll update more later.  Go SFA.
