Joining Rugby
What rugby has to offer.
Rugby has several valuable perks that make it worthwhile. Besides the joy of competing and being part of something, part of a team, rugby has several other positive aspects. Of course rugby is a physically demanding sport which will definitely keep you in shape, or get you there, whichever you need. You will meet many new and interesting people, not only from SFA but from teams all through TX and LA and possibly elsewhere. You can make friends and lots of memories. And for incoming freshman you have instant access to people with years of knowledge and exprience with college and the town of Nacogdoches. We work hard and play hard, so relaxing and unwinding is a necessity. We usually have at least one to two social events a week as a team, and usually something going on every night with groups of friends. We get to travel all over TX and LA. Ask any rugby player, they've got some great stories from fun road trips they've had. Compete, have fun, get in shape, travel, make lasting friends and memories.
Joining SFA Rugby
No experience is necessary to play Rugby. Few Amercian's have seen a game of rugby much less know how to play. We accept new players year round, no exceptions. The only requirement for playing rugby is the desire too, everything else we can teach you. Of course natural athletic ability helps, but is not a requirement. Practices are held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 4pm on the inturmural fields adjacent to Wilson St. Practice usually lasts about an hour and half to 2 hours. Introduce yourself to someone and we'll take it from there. If and when you decide you'd like to try rugby, you can begin practicing immediately. Shorts and cleats are all the basic equipment that is required. We do have special rugby shorts for sell through the intramural department that usually cost about 15 dollars. There is a small cost involved with playing rugby. There are club dues of about 25 dollars and league dues of about 25 dollars as well. These are yearly dues and they certifiy you to play rugby for an entire year. These are not required immediately of new players, there is a grace period where one can play without certification and hopefully use this time to decide if rugby is for you. When compared with other club sports or even fraternities on campus this is a small cost to pay for so much. But for those who have financial difficulty we can usually find away to work around these costs as well.
