Where is it?
Senate House Passage is easy to miss in Cambridge. It runs roughly
East-West, down the length of the Senate House
and Caius college library, with
these buildings on the South side and Caius college proper on the North
side. At the West end are Clare
and Trinity Hall colleges
and at the East end is the start of Trinity Street and the Cambridge
University Press bookshop. Senate House Passage is the site of
the Senate House Passage Leap (don't try this at
home, kids).
Senate House Passage Leap
The Senate House Passage Leap is undertaken by very foolhardy students.
It is basically jumping across Senate House Passage between Caius and the
Senate House, but from the second floor. The distance is about 6
feet, and every surface is very uncompromising stone. Students living
in the rooms in Caius that look out over the Senate House have to sign
agreements with their college not to let anyone in to do the jump. It was
a necessary part of parking a van on the roof
of the Senate House.
