Abuse on Cats

Cats are one of the most neglected pets on earth. You can usually find them wandering on city streets, running loose in backyards, getting stuck in trees and dumped since their owners don't have money left or don't have any love to offer to the animals. Usually, they just become outdoor cats, looking in garbage cans for scraps, drinking sewer water, leaving their feces near residential areas, and just become a nuisance and swarm with disease. And if they wander too close to human contact, they might be hit with brooms and much more. But a lot more awful things happen to cats that you might not even know of.

For example, a couple Indiana kids trapped 4 cats in a backyard and set them on fire. One of the cats, named Olivia, suffered 3rd degree burns on 80% of her body which is going to take about $5000 to repair. The poor black kitten was injured the most and is waiting at a veterinary clinic for the surgery. The kids have been gone to court for 3 months probation but lots of people don't agree that the sentence is enough, since it's not right just to burn a living thing for the fun of it. A petition as been set for people to change the law and to make the sentence much longer since the kids deserve it. If you want to find more info, please go to Acciny's Homepage for more info about Olivia and her inspiring story. She shall be in our hearts forever.

There other horror stories too, for example, an apartment was known to be the home of cats, and there have been weird odors around the apartment. But when the Humane Society came, it was way too late. Cats and their corpses were everywhere in the abandoned apartment. It was filthy with garbage on the floor, their feces scattered everywhere, rust on the furniture, molding food on the tables, no running water or windows for fresh air, and much more. An open refrigerator which was the only source of food for the cats for the months that they had to suffer, and over 30 carcasses laid everywhere, like on the floor, and lying on the furniture. And it had been so long the cats had human contact, their flesh had been rotting off their bones and you can practically see their bare skulls. And the worst part of all, the Humane Society had to clean up the horrible mess made by careless loveless humans. Also, since cats are more exposed to others, there are millions on newborns that are unwanted each year. Then, of course, they keep on multiplying until there isn't enough room for them, so they die off from disease like rabies and diseases from their own feces, from fleas, and other insects. Cats that have a home also get pregnant but the family doesn't have enough money to raise the whole litter so they must sell them, give them away, or must leave them in the streets if they are unwanted. Luckily, there are pet stores that buy litters of puppies and kittens that are healthy enough to sell to people that want a companion. But since a happy ending doesn't happen often enough, please spay your cats and dogs so you won't have to go though unwanted animals.

Every year, cats are dropped off at shelters because they are either the wrong pet or there isn't enough money in the household. But the shelters can't afford it either so most of them must be put to sleep. The main problem is usually the cat's claws, which it uses to scratch furniture and people. But people can de-claw their cats to make them safer. But people still think cats are horrid animals, but with a little love, they can be the ideal pets.
