In order to show you just what is on the web, we'll look at countries of Southern Asia in the encyclopedia and some other sources. No, we won't be archaic by finding them in the library. Encyclopedias are now online and on compact discs.

Go to Netscape and type in http://www.ebig.com This is Encyclopedia Brittanica Online.

Click on World Geography and Culture on the left side at bottom

Click on Asia under Level 2

Click on India under Level 3

Go down and click on state of India (****)

Click on Gujarate [Site1]Answer the following questions:

1. What is the population of Gujarat?

Go down and click on geography and answer the following.

2. How many Jilla are there?

Go back and click on History

3. When was Gujarat made a state?

4. When did the Gurjans enter Gujarat?

Go back to Gujaret [Site 2]

5. Where is the world's last habitat of the Asiatic Lion?

CLICK on Open and type in http://www.indiatime.com

Click on one of the many topics from Business to Awards.

6. Which one did you choose?

7. What did you find.

8. Briefly explain how this information would be useful.

Click on Open and type in http://www.incore.com/india/up.agra.html

9. What year was Agra made the capital?

10. Who had the Taj Mahal built? Why?

11. What is Fatehpur Sikri?

12. How long did it take to build the Taj Mahal?

13. When was Agra Fort built?

14. What building material is is made from?

15. What is Itmad-ui-Daulch's Tomb?

Go to the bottom and click on one of the excursions. Pick one excusion.

17. Go back to NETSEARCH and type in Agra? What search engine did you use and how many sites were there. Have you found that the number of sites these days is almost overwhelming?

Go back to Open and click and type http://www.jadoo.com. This is one of India's search engines. In the blank to the left of SEARCH type in any topic about India that interests you or just go on down and chick on one of the topics

Go back to Open and click and type http://www.samachar.com. It has online newspapers for India plus other newes sources like BBC, CBS, India Today and many others. Just about every place in the world is now connected by Internet. Click on one of the sites and:

19. a. Give URL and title of site.

b. Summararize site or what you found

c. Relate to ideas discussed in class

d. Give opinion of site and why that opinion. What did you find exciting about the site you chose? How could you use this site?, etc.
