Why is your site called "Cherith"?
Cherith is the name of the brook east of Jordan in the bible story of Elijah, where ravens came and fed him in the wilderness. As our home is at the east end of Jordan Drive, that's what we named our house and site. |

Isn't it cold where you live? The average temperature is just above zero, but we have hot summers with long growing days. That means that the temperature in the winter can get down to -40, and that's the same on any scale. If it is windy, it feels even colder and radio reports have a wind chill factor. However, the coldest days are always very clear and sunny so indoors it can feel deceptively warm. We do have mains electricity outlets to our cars to keep the battery and block warm enough to start. Winters arn't that bad or we wouldn't go away in summer. |

Why is Saskatchewan the "Land of Living Skies"? The sky's the same everywhere so this handle which appears on all our car registration plates just confirms to some outsiders how boring Saskatchewan is. But Nasa came here to do atmosphere research and film producers regularly come including "Twister". The air here is clear, far enough away from the sea to be dry but wet enough to not be dusty. Without mountains, we can see the sky and there is little heavy industry to cause particulate and light pollution. We are near enough to the Magnetic pole that we will see the Aurora Borelias,a rarity most other populated places, several times a year and often enough to be the motto of Melfort, our next city. |
