LILAC CROWN AMAZON
(aka Finsch's Amazon)
"Tequila" is a five year old handfed lilac crown amazon hen (DNA sexed). She was hatched on May 31, 1992 in Littleton, CO and I flew to pick her up when she was three months old. She has been a joy to own and feel that this species of amazon has excellent pet potential. "Tequila" is microchipped with the AVID MICROCHIP as are all my birds and I highly recomend chipping your bird as it is a low cost accurate way to identify them if the need should ever arise.
Males and Females are monomorphic and cannot be sexed visually. This amazon is quite striking with it's lilac (sometimes violet) crown which can extend down the neck and in a half-moon shape around its cheeks. In their natural habitat they are excellent flyers. Although they are rarer in the the pet trade than the larger three amazons, handfed babies can be found and make delightful pets. They can be very acceptable talkers and their temperament is generally "calmer" then that of the larger amazons.
