What child is this?

Someone got a gift today
It came from heaven above
It was sent to a boy and girl
and it had been wrapped snugly, by Love

They welcomed her with open arms
Oh what a joy to see
They named her "Shyrrel"
and said,"she belongs to you and me"

Soon the tears fell down from heaven
no longer would it be
sometimes our Father in heaven
has his plans, can't you see?

He gave you to this girl and this boy
so that you, would be "You"
He knew you would be special
and He knew, just what to do

As time passes by
and a young lady, you'll become
remember that you are so loved
in this first place, you called Home

For there, will hold some treasures
that will make you richer than gold
Come see us when you are ready
but please don't linger too long

for We have all really missed you
as you will surely see
There will allways be a place, "Dear"
in this place, you first called, "Home"

I found this poem: "Legacy of an Adopted Child" on the Southern Lady's homepage.
The author is unknown, and I have changed it a bit to suit a Father's prospective. It is my feeble attempt to let Shyrrel know how much she is loved.
Her Mother and birth-Father were married at the tender age of 15. And Shyrrel arrived before his 16th Birthday. Before her 1st birthday, her mother and father separated, then she was lost in a divorce and was moved far away from her birth-father and family. She was adopted by her stepfather this past summer 1997. I can only pray and hope that one day she will know how much her birth-father loves her. And how much she has lost out on...not knowing this wonderful gentle man! He has never held any resentment for the man that replaced him. God blessed him with twin girls a few years after Shyrrel was born. I know in my heart that they will find their big sister one day and they will tell her about this man that they love so much. So here is the poem.

Legacy of an Adopted Child

Once there were two men
Who never knew each other
One you do not remember
The other you call Father.
Two different lives,
shaped to make you one.

One became your guiding star
The other became your sun.
The first one gave you life
and the second taught you to live it.

The first one gave you a need for love
The second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality,
The other gave you a name.

One gave you a talent
The other gave you your aim,
One gave you emotions,
The other calmed your fears.

One saw your first sweet smile,
The other dried your tears.
One sought for you a home
That he could not provide

The other prayed for a child
And his hopes were not denied.
And now you ask me,
Through your tears
The age-old question,
Unanswered through the years.

Heredity or environment
Which are you the product of?
Neither, my grandchild, neither.
Just two different kinds of love.
