On May 2nd 2000 A Yizkor ceremony for the people of Smorgon was held at Hadera cemetery against the memorial tombstone. About 50 people living in Israel attended. The ceremony included two parts. First for the beloved killed in the holocaust and then for those who died since the ceremony of last year.
After the ceremony people gathered in "Beit Tzvi" Candles were lit, A lady told her story, slides were projected from the visit to smorgon, some discussions were made, some friends donated contributions for the committee's activities.
It was decided to develop the Internet homepage as a meeting place. A list of names and addresses shall be added in the near future. This can serve for contacting friends.
It is expected that the list of names shall develop to include new-comers and Smorgoners from overseas.
A bulletin is expected. Future annual meetings shall be arranged. Mrs. Tami Shaked the daughter of Mr. Avigdor Yaakobson had volunteered to help Mrs. Lisa Levinson and Mr. Motke Tabouriski in heading the organization, maybe some day even do it herself. It is expected that pictures, stories etc. will be added gradually. material in Hebrew or Yiddish shall probably have to be as pictures.
