SAVE THE WORLD'S SMALLEST COMMERCIAL FISH

History

Discovered and founded by Spanish exploring party led by Captain Pedro de Chavez and Franciscan Father Tomas Francisco Philippine Map on April 14, 1578, Buhi is in Southern part of Camarines Sur province in the Bicol Region. Its world-famous Lake Buhi, the habitat of the Sinarapan, earth's smallest commercial fish, was formed out of Mt. Asog's eruption on January 4, 1641 which, according to historical accounts, buried beneath said lake the first inhabitants of the town.

The present Buhinons are the descendants of the refugess and survivors who also fled from the wrath of Albay's Mt. Mayon when it erupted on February 1, 1814 hence the town's name nakaBuhi which means the one that got away or escaped.
