Wildtrak is software for Macintosh computers developed for the analysis of radio-tracking or other locational data. Currently there are no plans to produce a version for the PC, although similar software is available for that platform.
Wildtrak includes standard methods of describing and presenting data such as polygon and grid cell analysis. There are also modules to analyse speed and distance of movement and more complex analyses to examine interactions between animals.
A demonstration copy of Wildtrak is available from the address below. It is also available at the Illinois Natural History Survey Wildlife Ecology Software Server. This site is also useful for other software, both for PC and mac and contains information on other home range analysis packages.
Download a demo copy of Wildtrak from the INHS Server
Alternatively there is now a version of the demo to download at this site.
You can check out the instructions on how to try out Wildtrak on a few of your own files.
The demo version of Wildtrak allows you to analyse files of up to 100 fixes on a selection of the full analyses and is print/save disabled.
Wildtrak will work on the most basic Macintosh from a Mac Plus upwards. The main program is around 400k in size and the complete package including all analysis modules is a little over 1 MB in size. Wildtrak works best if you have around 2 MB of free RAM although special versions are available which will work in around 600k.
NOTE. The current version of Wildtrak will almost certainly not work with the new OS system 8.x and users have also experienced difficulties running Wildtrak on some versions of System 7. Please download the demo version first to ensure it will work on YOUR Macintosh system before purchasing.
Wildtrak requires comma delimited text files for input which can be output from any standard word processor or spreadsheet.
The minimum information required is a list of x and y co-ordinates although time, date, activity and other information makes data analysis more flexible allowing subsets of the data to be used.
Convex and concave multiple animal plots with overlaps.
Multiple animals plots with areas and overlaps.
Enables drifting of home range with time to be evaluated
Distance and speed parameters for single activity cycles.
Schoener1s index calculations
Determination of correlation between overlapping home ranges.
Identifies influences of pairs of animals on each other.
Converts bearing data to coordinate data.
Simple animation of movements over a study site map
Please note that Wildtrak is not freeware/shareware and is a commercial program, although you may download the demonstration version first to ensure that Wildtrak fulfils your needs.
Wildtrak is currently available by electronic ordering. The cost is 50 GB pounds for a single user version and 100 GB pounds for a multiple user copy at a single site. If you decide that you want a copy of Wildtrak, follow the instructions on the Wildtrak ordering page.

Version 2 is currently being programmed. This will have a new user interface, more options and additional analyses. A beta version will be available for evaluation near the time of release.
Users of version 1 will be entitled to an upgrade at a reduced price.
