Welcome to Sylvia's
"Photo Friends"
This is the special place at Sylvia's Kitty Condo where we are pleased to be able to share with you some of the very special furry friends who we have met along the course of our dear girls journey. As our "extended family" of friends grows, so too grows the love which fills our family's hearts.
This regal laid back furry friend of our family is Troika,
who with the tender loving assistance of his family is bravely battling the
sarcoma monster.
Dear Troika is blessed to have a loving family
helping him during this difficult part of his nine lives journey.
Troika's family is to be commended for not only
focusing so clearly on their dear boy's "quality" and
"comfort" of life, but for also helping to empower other animal lovers
with the information that will help to prevent them from having to face this
heartfelt journey that has united the hearts and lives of SO many feline loving
families.
Please include dear Troika and his family in your
daily thoughts and prayers in the hope that their dear boy truly becomes one of
the miracle kitty's who has forever seen the last of this terrible disease.
Dear Troika's Mom composed the following furry
family history for their dear boy so that we could share it with all of our
feline loving friends:
"Troika is a black & white, green-eyed kitty, somewhere between 8 & 11 years old now. He was living outside a building on the UC campus where I work & existing on handouts from staff members when I met him. He is crippled, as one front leg is congenitally deformed & folded at right angles up against his body. I met him in October, fed him regularly for about a month until on the Thanksgiving holiday, I was able to catch him & bring him home.
He was diagnosed with VAS in April of 2000, about 10 days after I lost my beloved Ambrose after a 3 year battle with CRF. Troika had a small tumor in the scruff area of his neck. I had him vaccinated routinely after he came to me although never in the scruff, but I have no idea what his history was B.M. (before me!). The tumor was removed surgically although it was impossible to get wide margins as he was & is a very bony thin cat & there just is so much flesh to encroach upon to get those margins.
The tumor reappeared 6 weeks later, further along the spine. It was removed. It recurred again a bit further back in June & was again removed. Chemo or radiation were & are not options. Partly due to what my Siamese cat, Coconut, went through with chemo before I lost him to gastrointestinal lymphosarcoma in February of 2000. Also Troika is a very high-strung kitty, very much like rabbits who can be frightened literally to death. I determined that he would rather have the best quality of life I could provide him for the time that he had left so I embarked upon an internet search or alternative methods of treatment.
In late June, I began giving Troika the following supplements
& have continued with them ever since:
Poly MVA, Transfer Factor Plus, IP6 with Inositol, and MGN3. His last
surgery was June of 2000. He has been tumor-free since. I know that
he probably won't be with me for years & years but he is doing well, is
happy, eats well & I have no doubt but that my choice & his methods of
treatment have been right for him.
I wish love & peace to everyone with ill kitties & kittens with cancer. May they cherish each & every moment that they have as if they were moments of the last day."
Pam (Troika's Mom)
This regal handsome boy is Boots,
a furry friend of our family who after a brave and valiant battle with the
sarcoma monster has now made that heartfelt journey across the Rainbow
Bridge. Dear Boots cuddled with his family in
British Columbia, Canada, which just helps to reinforce the fact that this
terrible disease is touching the hearts and lives of animal lovers around the
world.
While Boots' family will forever look forward to
that glorious day in the future when they are reunited with their dear Angel boy
in the land of love and comfort, they are now setting forth towards helping to
empower others with the information that will hopefully prevent them from having
to share in the heartache associated with VAS.
Boots' family composed the following tribute in
loving memory of their precious furry boy who will forever be held close in
their hearts:
This handsome little man is our dear fur baby Boots. His Mom, Buttons, came into our family as a stray in the summer of 1987.
Boots was born in March of 1988, and was always a very important part of our family. He had a good ear for listening, loved to eat anything that he saw us eat, and kept us entertained with his funny antics for a good number of years. In June of 2001, our dear baby was diagnosed with the ugly sarcoma monster. Surgery followed, and we were hopeful that he had beaten the odds. Much to our dismay, he hadn't, and it came back a short month later, with
a vengeance. To watch such a unique," human like" little fellow succumb to such a horrible disease was heartbreaking for all of us. Our fur baby made his trip across the Rainbow Bridge on August
10, 2001.
"Sleep on little man...there will be lots of Rice Krispies waiting for you when you wake"
With Love from your family
