Welcome to Sylvia's

"Photo Friends"

This is the special place at Sylvia's Kitty Condo where we are pleased to be able to share with you some of the very special furry friends who we have met along the course of our dear girls journey. As our "extended family" of friends grows, so too grows the love which fills our family's hearts.

This handsome Emperor Angel boy is Amos, a dear friend of our family who after a brave battle with VAS has made that heartfelt journey across the Rainbow Bridge.  While our family shares in the heartache that Amos' family must be experiencing in having had to say "until" to their dear fur boy, we truly take comfort in looking forward to that glorious day in the future in which they and we will once again be reunited with our beloved Angel children in the land of love and comfort.
Amos' family composed the following heartfelt tribute to their dear Angel boy, in loving memory of how their hearts and lives came to be united as well as to share some of the most special furry moments that they were blessed to share together.

"Amos was an orange tabby cat who a family abandoned one Sunday in 1989. This family drove up in front of my house, I saw the car door open and close and the car drive away. That cold September evening there was a little orange kitten who was scared, cold and hungry sitting on my porch. I fed him blackforest ham lunch meat because I didn’t have anything else in the house. I adopted Amos that day, September 17, 1989 and he was my best companion for over 13 years. He always loved blackforest ham from that day forward. Amos showed so much vitality and had a unique and wonderful personality. He loved to play, fight, mooch for people food and snuggle up. Amos greeted me at the door every day when I came home from work. Every time my boyfriend would come over he would run out and greet him and then go hide around the corner just waiting for Chris to come and play rough with him. He loved play fighting and chasing the laser toy with Chris! Amos also had a brother cat Clyde who is still here with us. He and Clyde used to sleep together and chase each other around the house play fighting. Amos was a very special, lovable, warm companion.

This September, shortly after Amos turned thirteen I discovered a lump on his back between his shoulders. I took him to the vet and they suspected that it was Vaccine Associated Feline Sarcoma. We took him to the specialist who recommended radical surgery. Amos had radical surgery and the pathology report came back noting that Amos had VAS. Unfortunately he would not eat or drink at the vet after his surgery. We brought him home on the Friday and had to rush him back to the vet on the Saturday as he was having great difficulty breathing. Amos was going into congestive heart failure (and the heart failure more than likely started at the vet before we brought him home). They were able to keep him alive for another week. He still would not eat or drink. After 6 days his heart failure was worse. The night before he died Amos cried and looked at me as if to say, “I can’t take this anymore”. He hadn’t cried once through the whole ordeal. On the Friday his heart failure was so bad that 9 days after his surgery we had to put Amos to sleep. We were told by the vet that he wasn’t going to get better and that he was suffering. On December 6, 2002 Amos passed over the Rainbow Bridge.

He are some of our favorite happy memories of Amos. The following is an excerpt of something I wrote for Amos."

"You gave me love each and every day from the day that you found me.
You would snuggle me, and curl up under my arm at night.
You were so smart the way you would wash your feet in the toilet,
the way you would break into the food bag, the way you would knock over the garbage can to get an extra turkey treat, the way you would knock the plastic muffin container off of the counter so that it would open and you could take a bite out of each and every muffin.
Remember when you bit through the bag of buns and took at bite out of each and every bun?
Remember when you used to eat barbeque chips like they were your favorite?

As I write these memories of you Amos I feel just as much pain today as I did on that Friday. I don’t want you to be gone. It gives me some peace knowing that you’re in heaven. I know you’re there with our childhood cat Mr. Ziggy and that he is taking good care of you and playing with you like when you were a little kitten.

Always know that I have always loved you my little friend. I will always love you and will always be thankful for all of the love and happiness you gave me throughout your life. You shared and supported me through all of the sad times and all of the happy times. You always made life worth living. You always gave me love and affection. You always adored me and I adored you!

You were the best little buddy that anyone could ever have. You were my baby and I will always love you!"

This furry handsome posing boy is Pierre, a very special friend of ours who with the loving assistance of his family is bravely and successfully facing a difficult battle in this part of his nine lives journey.
Coleen and I truly take great comfort in knowing that dear Pierre and his family have now been blessed with the greatest blessing of all, that of the prognosis of a future filled with many more cuddle filled years together.
Pierre's family composed the following furry bio for their beloved fur boy so that we could share with all of our friends the unconditional loving relationship that has forever blossomed since their lives paths crossed over thirteen years ago.

"I was driving past an Animal Shelter one day and decided to stop and go in. I had recently lost two long time companions and thought it was time for a new addition to my family.  I took a look around and came upon a cage that had many kittens of all colors in it.  I was looking for an all black cat or kitten and didn’t see one. All of a sudden, as if he heard me, a black kitten came stumbling to the front of the cage to see what all the commotion was about.  It was love at first sight.  In no time we were on our way home.   On the drive home he sat in the front seat and stared at the sky through the sunroof.  I named him Pierre, Mon Ami, Handsome and Fatty.  Mostly we call him Pierre and Mona (short for Mon Ami or my friend in French).  That was 13 years ago and everyday has been a joy with him in my life.  He is like no other feline I have met.  He was never a hunter, like his sister – Isabel, and he was never aloof like most cats. He’s subdued and relaxed and likes to greet everyone he sees by sitting in their lap and drooling on them.  Everyone that meets him falls in love much like myself.  Recently Pierre was diagnosed with a nerve sheath tumor.  He had a radical operation that removed the tumor together with the margins of the tumor, which were tested for cancer cells. The results came back negative and he is considered cured.  My family and myself were so happy and still are to have him in our lives.  Not a day goes by that we don’t tell him know how much we love him and want him to stay with us."

This Regal Angel lady is Yo Yo, a furry friend of our family who after a valiant battle with the sarcoma monster made that heartfelt journey to the land of love and comfort.  While our family will forever regret the fact that we've been united with so many animal lovers as a result of this terrible disease, we truly consider ourselves very blessed in being able to share in the special friendships that our dear fur children have inspired.  Yo Yo's family composed the following heartfelt tribute, in loving memory of their beloved Angel girl.

"Yo Yo was a gift from a Siamese Breeder friend. I saw her the first time when she was a small kitten sitting on the porch, with huge ears and brilliant dark blue eyes gazing in my direction. Before I knew it she was on my lap, purring and kneading. The breeder said.. she has chosen you.. take her home .. as a gift from us.

That was the beginning of a journey for me and Yo Yo that would last 15 years, filled with love, and also with many physical challenges for her. In that time frame she lost a litter, became blind, developed major intestinal problems, was spayed, and developed VAS. However..

She taught me about courage and the ability to love unconditionally. She was totally loving and accepting of new cats into our household. She loved little pieces of rolled up paper better than any "real toy," was a retriever and used to groom my hair every morning. She was more of a mother to me.. than I was to her I do think. She was a gift of the greatest magnitude.

She was the most loving cat I have ever had the privilege to share my heart and home with."

This handsome furry friend of our family is Twilight, who after valiantly battling the sarcoma monster back in 1996 made that heartfelt journey across the Rainbow Bridge.  Our family truly looks forward to the glorious day in the hopefully not so distant future when this dreaded cancer is defeated.  Then, all those families whose lives have unfortunately been touched by the sarcoma monster can unite in celebration of a  joyous victory rather than in heartache.

Twilight's family composed the following furry tribute to their beloved Angel child so that we could share a little furry glimpse of how their hearts and lives came to be one.

"Twilight was adopted from an animal shelter when he was just a kitten. The folks at the animal shelter said he was a girl, but when I brought him back for shots they said you have a boy cat.  I kept him anyway of course.  Twilight loved to "kick back" off the walls as he fetched a toy that was thrown to him.  Dear Twilight was know as the gentle "boss cat" in his furry home for when he stood his stance, his siblings  knew just who was king of their furry domain.

Hopefully he is having a grand-time beyond the Rainbow Bridge."
