Welcome to Sylvia's

"Photo Friends"

This is the special place at Sylvia's Kitty Condo where we are pleased to be able to share with you some of the very special furry friends who we have met along the course of our dear girls journey. As our "extended family" of friends grows, so too grows the love which fills our family's hearts.

This beautiful posing Angel girl is Snowflake, a very dear friend of our family who after a heartfelt battle with the sarcoma monster has made that peaceful journey to the land of love and comfort.  Snowflake was not only blessed during the whole course of her life journey to have a loving Mom that always provided her with the most "quality" and "comfort" of life, but who is now helping to spearhead the battle against this terrible disease.  Snowflake's Mom has founded "VAS Awareness", an educational campaign being carried forth via Cat Show around the country.  We'd encourage you to visit the "VAS Awareness" web effort and see if you can be of assistance in helping to carry forth this noble cause.

Dear Snowflake's Mom composed the following heartfelt tribute to her beloved Angel child, in loving memory of her special child who will forever hold a special place in her heart.

"I found 4 year old Snowflake in January 1993 at the Humane Society in Charlotte, NC.  She and her littermate brother had been put up for adoption.  Her brother was adopted quickly, but Snowflake was not.

Our 19+ year old family cat, Smokey Jo, crossed the rainbow bridge after losing her battle with chronic renal failure on Saturday and a dear friend put me in the car and drove me to the Humane Society that very afternoon, where I met
Snowflake

We were both very sad creatures.  When they opened the cage,
Snowflake did not want to come out.  She was very nervous.  They brought her out and I held her, but she was tense.  I understood.

My adoption of
Snowflake was approved and I brought her home on Monday.  Over time, I came to realize that we had healed one another and we were no longer sad.  Snowflake and I had adopted each other for good.

On October 8, 2002, I took
Snowflake to the vet for her routine check up and the vet found a large lump in her right thigh.  At the time she didn't act or appear sick, but by November 3, the evil VAS monster had consumed my beautiful Snowflake and I reluctantly, but lovingly, helped her to cross the Rainbow Bridge.  Snowflake is one of the kitties where a shot of Depo-medrol may be implicated in her cancer, but there is no way to know for sure.

There is only one word for a disease that does such a relentlessly cruel and horrible thing to such a loving, devoted and beautiful creature, and that word is "evil".

Here is a tribute that I wrote for
Snowflake shortly after she crossed:

I called her "my beautiful
Snowflake"...
She curled up by my side as I slept...
She slept in my lap or kneaded my belly as we sat in my chair...
She could carry on an entire conversation-
Answer questions-
Say "I love you"..."

This meadow  frolicking friend of ours is Cleo, who with the loving support of her Mom and Dad is braving battling the sarcoma monster.  Cleo is so very blessed in that her family is remaining focused on the most important issues during this difficult time in their family's lives, that of the "quality" and "comfort" of her life.  Please include dear Cleo and her family in your daily thoughts and prayers in the hope that they are blessed with as much love, peace and comfort as possible during this difficult journey that has united the hearts and lives of so many animal loving families.
Cleo's parents composed the following furry family bio for their beloved fur girl, to share not only how their hearts and lives came to be united, but to also share some of the most special furry moments that they have been blessed to share together.

"This is Cleo, a sweet happy kitty currently battling VAS.  We first met Cleo on 1999; she used to come to our door everyday to eat and get pet. One day in September 1999 there was a threat of a hurricane and we were desperately looking for Cleo and couldn’t find here. Thankfully, she was alright and the next day we took her in and never let go of her. That same week we adopted her officially, we took her to the vet to make sure she was totally healthy (we have two other babies) and gave her all of the vaccines that the vet recommended. Three years after that (September 2002) she developed a hard mass between her shoulders that was eventually diagnosed as VAS.  We decided that Cleo was not going to go through surgery due to our findings pointing to the small chance of achieving a cure. Instead, Cleo is battling the illness with homeopathic remedies as well as nutritional supplements. Our goal is for her to have the best life that she can while trying to slow down the growth of this aggressive cancer. Her tumor is now (as of 6/24/03) the size of a golf ball. Her homeopath vet expects her to live happily for at least another year. Cleo loves to go outside on the grass with us and loves the sun.  It means the world to us that she is happy and that she enjoys the rest of her life. That is and will continue to be our goal for as long as we are blessed to have her in our lives."

This beautiful sun cuddling friend of ours is Alley who with the tender loving support of her human and furry family is bravely battling the sarcoma monster. Dear Alley and her family are not only facing this difficult part of her nine lives journey, but they are also focusing their loving attention on Alley's human brother as he also faces a serious health care concern.
Please direct all of your positive energy and loving prayer towards Alley and all of her family in
the hope that these two precious children of theirs are soon journeying along roads to good health, filled with much "comfort" and "quality" of life.
Alley's Mom composed the following furry bio for their dear fur girl so that we could paint a little furry picture of this very special girl who hold such a special place in their family's hearts.

"A little about Alley:
She is one of the Duex Menagerie, there are 9 to be exact. She has 3 dog sisters, 1 dog brother, 4 cat
brothers and a sister and brother without fur.  All live on 3 acres in Sunset, Louisiana except for the furless sister and brother.
We got her 12 years ago at the age of 5 weeks. She was so small that we feared we would step on her and so she sat on my husbands shoulders every morning while he shaved. We have spoiled her rotten with a cat napper, bunny pillow, animal design baby blanket and anything else possible. She has the most beautiful blue eyes with a Siamese/Calico mix coat.
She is our baby."
