Welcome to Sylvia's

"Photo Friends"

This is the special place at Sylvia's Kitty Condo where we are pleased to be able to share with you some of the very special furry friends who we have met along the course of our dear girls journey. As our "extended family" of friends grows, so too grows the love which fills our family's hearts.

This very special Angel Boy is Baby Kitty, who with the heartfelt assistance of his loving family has made that heartfelt journey to the land of love and comfort.  After having valiantly battled the sarcoma monster Baby Kitty's family is to be commended for tirelessly now setting forth towards helping to empower other animal lovers with the information that will hopefully prevent them from having to share in the heartache that has united the hearts and lives of SO many animal loving families.
Please say a special prayer for Baby Kitty's  family in the hope that they find comfort in looking forward to that glorious day in the future in which they will all be reunited in the "Land of Love and Comfort".

Baby Kitty

April 11, 1995- January 15, 2007

Our paths crossed on a spring day when I was a sales rep calling on one of my accounts, The Sacramento City Pound. On Fridays I would call on the shop and then go see the animals, just for fun.

At the time I lived in a small apartment and couldn’t even have a pet but, I never expected to see this beautiful little furry gray and white baby kitten, in this big cold dark cage. He couldn’t of been more that 2 weeks old. His little green eyes starred deep into me. I questioned the officer that I knew there and he said, “ that he had been thrown in the dump box the night before”. I told him “he was too young and never would survive”. He said, there was nothing we could do until his “hold” time was up, which was 7 days.

The next day I talked my husband into “just” checking on him. Across from the pound was the Old Ford Museum, so my husband, Don wondered over there and I took the kids inside the pound. There was the baby kitty. The kids and I fell in love with him. So we devised a plan to say that it was our cat and someone must have found him and dumped him. Danielle, my daughter ran across the street grabbed 20.00 out of her dad’s wallet and we paid the 17.00 fine and took Baby Kitty home to our small apartment that didn’t allow pets!.

Well, he was too young to be away from his Mom and immediately started getting sick, but I learned how to feed him and he started to grow into a handsome kitty, still known as “Baby Kitty”. The only problem was, I was his mom. He followed me everywhere I went, got into everything, I think he was trying to be helpful but… I fell in love with him too.

About a month later we moved into our first house. He was very happy there and became a little more independent. It was quite apparent that he was the king of his end of the block. He had friends everywhere in the neighborhood. Even the dogs loved him. I don’t think he ever knew he was a cat. Every night when it was time to come in I would whistle “You Are My Sunshine” and he would come running from where ever he was with his little bell on his collar ringing. Then we would snuggle in bed until it was time for him to wake me up for FOOD.

It wasn’t long into his adult life that he became very ill. I took him to the vet and after many tests and IV’s he got over some unknown “thing” that he had gotten. Although, he had all of his shots he still got sick two more times after that. One time to the point where the vet spent all day Sunday with him just to be sure he was OK. The only reason that the Dr’s could ever think of  was he didn’t get all the antibodies from his mother’s milk and was very susceptible to everything. As he got older we didn’t have any more problems with him getting sick like that.

I had taken Baby to the vet for his routine check up and shots. He was now 10 years old.  I just mentioned the little lump on his back by his right hip. It had been there for at least a year, unchanged. She thought it was a stick under his skin. She wanted to take it out so I agreed to that and a tooth cleaning. No big deal right? When they called and said it was a VAS and told me what that was, I was in shock. I had taken such good care of him and by getting him all of his shots I caused cancer.

Well, after the Dr.'s biopsy of the so called stick the cancer woke up and went crazy. It was October 2005 and by Thanksgiving it was out of control the tumor burst and would not heal.  They referred me to U.C. Davis and gave me little hope of recovery. One Dr. (Dr Rodriquez) took a chance and took him on. Although, Baby Kitty stayed strong, and  he was a fighter I knew he was in pain. He made our move to Ohio and started to get worse. We had his leg and most of his hip removed August of 2006 and followed with Chemo, which was very rough on him this time. He still did very well considering the surgery and still was my little buddy. He even started to play with the dog again. I am glad I had a little more time with him, because I wasn’t ready to let him go even though I feel selfish for putting him through so much for just a few months of time. The cancer came back by January and there was nothing left to do but let him cross the rainbow bridge. I hope he’s running around on all four legs having the time of his life. I miss him so much and I always will. He was my sunshine on a cloudy day!

This regal Angel fur child is Sophie, a beloved friend of our's who with the loving assistance of her family has made that heartfelt journey across the Rainbow Bridge.  Angel Sophie was truly blessed in having shared "heart" and "home" with such a wonderful animal loving family, one that always focused their hearts upon the "comfort" and "quality" of their dear fur child's life.
Angel Sophie's family composed the following heartfelt bio for their beloved fur girl so that others could share in some of the special furry life moments that they were able to share together.

Sophie’s Life:

My cat Mia of 10 years old died of liver disease and I was feeling sorry for myself one month later and went to the Atlantic City Animal Center, NJ to just see what cats they had for adoption.  Well I was in there for 3 hours because when you take on the responsibility of adopting it is for life.  I already had one declawed cat at home, not by my choice, so I was interested in another one so there would be no conflict.   I had 2 choices Sophie and Precious.  I chose Sophie, because on her cage it said she likes to be held like a baby.  That was the truth; she was the cuddliest friendly cat I had ever seen. So off we went on home and in the car she looked at me like I had never seen before with such gratitude and relief to have a home.  She reached my soul I believe.  For the next couple of days, she slept on top of my dryer and then emerged with all her love to everyone she ever met.  No person could enter my house without having Sophie on their lap.  She was a 2 time shelter cat; I found out, 1st time as a kitten and had been adopted but was allergic to red dye and lost all her fur, not knowing what was wrong with her she got dropped off again to the same shelter.  That’s when I came in.  Anyway, 6 months after I took her home and was in all my glory of having this fabulous cat, we were playing and I felt a small lump.  My heart stopped.  The next day I went to the vet and he said that he believed it was fibrosarcoma.  I researched all night on the internet and found Jeff and Coleen who helped me through the next 12 months.  All reports were grim and after 2 surgeries and agonizing false hope she died.  She went out like a champ.  My heart is broken.  She was three.

My beautiful Sophie,

Love

Louise and Family
