This life takes the shape of bacteria, viruses, fungi, molds, flagelettes, algae, single-celled organisms, ferns, plants, flowers, fish, insects, birds, trees, vegetables, reptiles,amphibians,and also mammals, which is the group that we humans belong to, although there may be some of our ilk who more closely resemble the cold-blooded types in their lack of regard for nature and her care. This is a page for the late Father Eluterio J. Tropa, Filipino visionary and global pioneer environmentalist. He founded a movement called "The Lamplighters" in Long Beach, California 39 years ago, before the environment became a big interest. His purpose was to "Light the lamps in the hearts of men",and in today's politically correct world, that means women too! WHAT is the Philippine enviromental situation??? Well, in a country that was once reknown as the "pearl of the orient",an archipelego of ove 7,000 islands teeming with flora, fauna, coral and other sea life, it is less than a shell of it's former self. Decades of legal and illegal logging, coral exports, dynamite and cyanide fishing, industrial large-scale pollution of air, land and water, indiscriminate and downright deadly mining practices have ripped, scraped, raped and stripped these once-verdant islands almost beyond belief and certainly beyond recognition.
