THE PYTHON PREFACE
The Ball Python: Python regius, is one of the most popular reptile pets in the world today. The Ball Python is a very calm and easy to care for snake. They are fairly mild- tempered to be in the Python family. Most Ball Pythons on the market nowadays are captive bred, for the reasons of hostility, better breeding chances, and a healthier snake. I would recommend the Ball Python to those looking into a new pet.
BASIC FACTS
The Ball Python: Python regius, will average out at about 4-6 feet, and 4-6 inches in diameter at the thickest part on it's body. The head is narrow and oval-like, set distinctivly out from the neck. There are four heat-receptor pits set on the upper jaw. The actual tail is relatively short.
The colors of the Ball Python's ground colors are mainly a light golden brown to a creamy white broken by two unusually formed, deep brown lines (longitudinal) joined by crossbands.
Ball Pyhtons are cold-blooded and, therefore, they must rely on their environment for body warmth. They generally prefer to stay in climates setting in the mid-80's during the day and low-70's at night.
Being carnivorous, the Ball Python will take prey according to the size of the snake. After eating it will not eat again for a week or two, according to the size and number consumed.
Shedding is a normal process that on goes for life, once every 1-2 months. Shedding is simply a way for the python to grow. Before shedding, the snake's eyes turn a milky blue color (5-6 days before shedding).
