Known History: Tulip's family found Rosepetal as a small

sisters "in all but blood" and exchanged soul names. Although she
hated to leave her beloved friend, Rosepetal eventually set off in
search of her lost family. While on her journey, she met up with
Talon and her followers. Finding Moss' offer to teach her that art
of healing too good to possibly decline, she decided to stay with
the holt - at least temporarily. Although shy by nature, she has
already made friends among the tribe and is not likely to leave
anytime soon. But she still wonders about her missing family and
longs to know her place in the world.
Extended History: (Note: This is explained in
further detail in "A Family Torn: Roseleaf's Story" -
see below)
The fourth and youngest cub of the healer Truelight and the
tree-shaper Carver, young Roseleaf was the last of a family of
great magic. Although she shows no sign of any magical
abilities of her own, she is drawn to magic in others like a moth
to a flame. She is an extremely clever girl and a quick learner,
although this generally goes unnoticed because of her extreme
shyness. Like all of her siblings (and according to the traditions
of her father's family), Roseleaf was named after a plant and
given the talisman of her name to wear - a rose leaf carved from
the wood of a white rose bush by her father Carver. When her
original holt was destroyed by a fire, Roseleaf managed to survive
until she was found by Tulip's family. Noticing both the girlÕs
love of roses and the strange necklace she wore, they gave her
the name of Rosepetal.
Personality: rather shy, especially around strangers; she
is generally cheerful and somewhat idealistic, though she can also
be extremely stubborn
Outlook on Life: she believes that all will come right in
the end, including the search for her family
Sees Self As: a lost soul wandering the earth; she feels
somewhat out of place in any group, but is coming to love and
respect the members of the Ivy Holt.

*Note: Anything in italic is not known to Rosepetal. This
information is provided for the reader's curiosity.

A Family Torn: Roseleaf's Story

All was quiet in the holt. Food had been unusually scarce lately, so most of the members had gone in search of a new hunting ground. Of those who had stayed, all but Truelight and the cubs were out on a hunt. Although she knew the others would return from foraging soon, she awaited the return of the larger hunting party anxiously. It had been eight days since they left and she could smell winter's approach. More than anything else the healer wished that Carver were home. She always felt safe with him, and for some unexplained reason, she longed for the safety of his arms right now. Shivering with an unknown fear, Truelight quickly scanned the surrounding area for the cubs. They all seemed safe and happy. The twins, usually the first to run off somewhere, were busy playing with the older cubs and little Roseleaf was sleeping peacefully on her mother's lap. Truelight smiled as she looked down at her youngest cub. Not even a full turn of the seasons after her birth, she was already showing the signs of potential magic. Of course, that was not unusual in their family. Born from the lifelong recognition of a healer and tree-shaper, Roseleaf and her siblings were considered the most likely cubs in the holt to possess magic talent. BlazingStar was already able to bend plants to her will, although she was still no match for her father in strength.

Knowing that all of the cubs were safe relaxed Truelight somewhat, and she rested her head against a tree, watching the cubs playing around her. Being one of only two healers in the holt, she had helped in bringing most of the cubs into the world, besides bearing four of her own. Thinking fondly of her last cub's birth, Truelight sank into a dreamlike remembrance. Even after her birth, Roseleaf and her mother shared a strong bond. Truelight stroked the girl's cheek softly, the side of her hand accidentally brushing against her daughterÕs new necklace. Like her brother and sisters, Roseleaf was named by her parents after a plant and wore the symbol of her name on a leather thong around her neck. Carver had created each child's necklace not only in the shape of that cub's namesake, but also from the wood of the plant which it represented. With each necklace created as a symbol of luck and protection, Carver had worked hard to finish Roseleaf's before the winter cold set in. This was always the most dangerous time for cubs, and both parents wanted their youngest cub to thrive as her siblings had done.

Suddenly Truelight felt a sudden pang of fear. There was an all-too-familiar scent in the air - one that she knew could not be a good sign. She quickly gathered the children together, giving them strict instructions to stay together. Leaving BlazingStar in charge of the younger cubs, she ran to the river, taking as many flasks and containers as she and Softstep could carry. With luck, maybe she could keep the cubs safe until the others returned. She hoped it would be soon...

Roseleaf awoke from her nap to the sound of wolves whining. Frightened, and not understanding why neither of her parents was there to hold her, she snuck away from the others unseen. The first to notice her absence was BlazingStar, who quickly went in search of her baby sister. Being the oldest, she knew that her mother would hold her responsible if anything happened to little Roseleaf.

Surrounded by smoke, BlazingStar crawled across the forest floor. She could barely see or even smell where she was going, but still she pushed herself further in search of the lost child. It seemed as if years had passed before BlazingStar noticed a soft wailing sound in the distance. Her hopes soared - if Roseleaf was still alive, maybe she could save her. She followed the sound until she finally came to the edge of a large river. It was here that she found her sister, sitting on the bank and crying pitifully for her mother. Every muscle in her body ached, but BlazingStar made one last attempt to save the cub. Pulling herself along the bank, she managed to find a large log and shape it into a boat of sorts. Onto this she placed young Roseleaf, along with a handful of berries that she picked off a nearby bush. And pushing the craft out into the water with the last of her strength, she prayed that the girl would be able to survive until help came. As she watched the craft drift slowly down the river, BlazingStar smiled to herself.

Later that day, a young girl was helping her mother gather water when she noticed a strange boat floating down the river. "Mama, mama, look over there!" the girl pointed towards the water. "Tulip! You know you're supposed to be hel... What in the world?" With the help of a strong vine nearby, the elf swam out into the water to investigate. To her surprise, a strange young cub was sleeping softly on the raft. Knowing that survival on the river would be impossible for one so young, she decided to take the cub back to the holt. As she carried the sleeping girl to the river's edge, so failed to notice to body floating by. Only young Tulip saw the strange smiling girl floating out of sight...
