Save Sebangau
Largest remaining intact peatland in Central Kalimantan
Selamatkan Sebangau -- Hutan gambut utuh terbesar di Kalimantan Tengah

My dissertation work was part of the studies on the impact of landuse change and fire on the sustainability of peat swamp forest in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia (DARTROP).

The report:

Management of Tropical Peatlands: Mega Reclamation Project in Central Kalimantan", March 2001

discuss the brief history of the establishment of the Mega Rice Project in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, and recent developments in the area. The Mega Project was an attempt to convert a vast area of pristine peatland into rice fields - a task proven to be devastating, not only to the environment but to more than 15,000 settlers living in the project area.
