Agoes Soegianto, young lecturer in marine ecology, toxicology, environmental pollution and environmental impact assessment at the Airlangga University, Surabaya, Indonesia. I obtained my engineer from IPB (Bogor Institute of Agriculture, Indonesia) majoring in "Aquatic Resources Management" in 1986. In 1987 I started my career as an assistant ("asisten ahli madya, 1989 and asisten ahli, 1991") at the Laboratory of Environmental Biology, Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Sciences, Airlangga University. I recieved my "lektor muda" (young lecturer) in 1994. I recieved my DEA (MSc) degree from the University of Aix-Marseille III, France in 1995 majoring in "Marine Environment". Since 1995, I have been continuing my PhD degree at the Laboratory of Invertebrate Ecophysiology, University of Montpellier II, France. My thesis focusing on the impact of cadmium and copper on the structure of gill's chamber of the shrimp Penaeus japonicus. Now, I am preparing some papers concerning that subject. My study is funded by SUDR (Six Universities Development and Rehabilitation) Project of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.
Since 1987, I have been writing more than 50 critical papers concerning the environmental problems in Indonesian daily and weekly journals such as: Surya, SurabayaPost, JawaPos, Kompas, Mutiara, etc. I was an instructor at "the training course on the environmental impact assessment" conducted by Airlangga University, Surabaya Institute of Technology, Environmental NGO (WALHI) and Indonesian Ministry of Environment. I was a member of more than 15 projects of environmental impact study, such as: Gresik copper smelter industry, Gresik petrochemical industry, Surabaya urban development project, Surabaya sanitary landfield project, some mining (petroleum, feldspar, etc.) projects, etc.
