Challenging 3,776m, the highest mountain in Japan

Mt. Fuji, known to all, is the best mountain in Japan. The climbing season of Mt. Fuji is from July 1st to August 31st every year. This is the best season for climbing as the weather is usually good. If furnished with a proper plan and equipment, and climbing at your own pace, both young and old alike should have no problem in conquering this mountain.

Routes for climbing Mt. Fuji

Fujinomiya trail

This route travels round the south side of the mountain, and you can enjoy the panoramic scenery of Suruga bay and the Izu peninsula. You can get up to an altitude of 2400m by car, which is attractive as this gives you the shortest climb to the peak. There is an instruction center at Gogo-me (5th point) where climbing consultation is given, and at Hachigo-me (8th point) there is a clinic where climbers can go to have ailments or injuries treated.

Gotenba trail

This route is also called the East front trail mountaineering road across rugged pozzuolana land, suitable for good walkers. You can feel the grandeur of the wilderness as you watch the sunrise that is visible from all points along this route after the Shin-Gogo-me (new 5th point).

Subashiri trail

The route for the ascent and descent between the new 5th point and the peak are different on this course, which gives added enjoyment, and anybody can climb this route safely. There is a hiking course from the new 5th point to Sho-Fuji, where you can see plants unique to Mt. Fuji.

Time required between 5th point (new 5th point) and the peak is 5-7 hours for climbing up and 2-3 hours for climbing down, however this varies according to your physical strength and the duration of the rests you take.
