Overview

Until the middle of 1980's, there was almost nothing attractive in Odaiba. Trucks from nearby construction sites ran to and fro, and the present buildings now dotting the area did not exist then. From the beginning of 1990's, after it was designated a bay area scenic spot by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Odaiba began to develop with dizzying speed. ln later half of 1990's, shopping mall `DECKS TOKYO BEACH', Fuji Television, etc. appeared in Odaiba, and from that time on, Odaiba became thronged with people and got well known as an attractive sightseeing spot. Later on, 'Palette Town' and the now famous shopping mall for ladies 'Venus Fort' were established. In 2000, 'Odaiba' came to its peak as a new multifunctional amusement city with the appearance of '`AQUACITY', 'Mediage', etc. Now it has become one of the top ranked sightseeing spots that Japanese would most like to visit.

Odaiba is a newly developed and still developing. Its central part is called Palette Town. Palette Town holds the most colorful attractions of Odaiba including Mega Web (a large-scale multimedia car amusement and exhibition center), Venus Fort (a European-style theme amusement and shopping town for ladies), Aqua City(an entertainment center, featuring many amusement indoor rides), Zeppo Tokyo(a magnificent performance hall gathering world class artists), Sun Walk (a 8-meter-wide, 170-meter-long commercial street), Ferris Wheel, Hyper Shoot & Hyper Drop (two 58-meter-high tower like apparatus for high-speed sliding and dropping), Palette Plaza, Palette Garden, Neogeo World Tokyo Bayside (a indoor amusement center with thrilling roller coasters and many other heart pounding attractions), etc.. Nearby along the Tokyo Bay, there are 'Ship Science Museum', 'Fuji Television', many large hotels and Odaiba Seaside Park that is the place the historic Odaiba is situated at and amazingly, there is a deluxe free shuttle bus service system `Bay Shuttle' which connects together all the main scenic spots, and will make your tour in Odaiba more efficient more convenient and more enjoyable.

Shuttle Bus

There is a free shuttle bus named 'Bay Shuttle' so named as it runs along the sea shore of Tokyo Bay (from where you can also enjoy the Tokyo Bay scene) riding the bus. The buses in service are very comfortable deluxe limousines with beautifully and exclusively designed. 'Free' is hugely painted on the body. You cannot miss them.
The buses leave at 10 minutes interval from each stop, taking a circular route with Palette Town as the starting and terminal stop. The bus stops at 9 main spots of Odaiba including DECKS. The DECKS stop is at the side just opposite to its 1F Moon Flower Restaurant. You can get off at any stop and then take the next bus.

A fantastic panorama from the slowly revolving wheel includes an entire view of Tokyo Tower and a broad view of the Tokyo Metropolitan. The whole of Tokyo Bay can also be seen, with the highlight of the rife being the magnificent Rainbow Bridge, which is regarded as the symbol and pride of Tokyo Bay. Rainbow Bridge lights in the evening and with a little imagination, appears just like a huge rainbow stretching across the bay, with the cars like shooting stars dashing through the rainbow.
The Ferris Wheel itself also lights up in the evening, and by itself is a very pretty sight.

Mega Web

MEGA WEB is a giant multimedia amusement and exhibition center of motor vehicles. Visitors can enjoy different car driving simulators, drool at the newest models of cars and of course, buy them. Trial drive of your favorite car is also possible. This concept is described as the MEGA WEB 'Trilogy' of 'Look', 'Ride' and 'Feel'.
A spacious beautifully designed exhibition hall with a capacity of up to 140 cars exhibits, you can see all the current models of TOYOTA cars, sports cars, motor-show demo cars and wel-cabs here. Like real driving, you sit behind the steering wheel, fasten your seat belt, start the engine and put the car in gear, and it will take you through various terrains such as metropolitan, countryside, villages, wild jungles, etc.
Dual Stage: A driving-skill-evaluation simulator using real time CG display. This is one of the favorite attractions in TOYOTA ClTY SHOWCASE.

2. History Garage

Motor Inn: This is a replica of the 'real America' in 1950's motels at that time, complete with rusted gas stations, dusty country roads and villages. By now you should have realized how Japanese 'like' American culture :)

FUTUREWORLD is situated near the base of the Ferris Wheel connected with the Palette Deck, and consists of 2 main parts: Future World Experience and Future World scanner/Future World Vision.
In the Future World Experience, jump on to the 3D ride coaster piloted by Drive-Jockey, a cyber pilot with privileged driving license, and dash all the way through 'Sky, Ground and Sea' to the destination you have chosen.

Tezuka Osamu World Art Square

Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989) was a world famous Japanese cartoonist and animator with remarkable imagination and sharp wit. Almost all of his works were around the main theme of true essence and sacredness of life and the images of the characters in his works have been deeply etched into people's mind.
Tezuka Osamu World Art Square is at the 4th floor of the Aqua City building that is just opposite to and connected with the gate of Odaiba station of Yurikamome line. This shop opens every day throughout the year from 10:00 to 19:00 and is a theme shop characterized by silkscreen vivid reproductions and commercialized items of Tezuka's works and the characters in his works. Tezuka's main works are on sale there and the animations are replayed by special video TV displaying system with fantastic acoustics.
Tezuka's works includes Astro Boy, Mighty Atom, Jungle Emperor Leo, Black Jack, etc. This shop is beautifully designed and is not only a good place for shopping but also a wonderful place for appreciating Tezuka's world.

Mediage and the Yellow Submarine

At Aqua City is another comprehensive amusement center called 'Mediage'. Aqua City which occupies 1/3 of the building from 1 to 6 floors with a total area of 27,000 sq meters. Mediage is named from the concept of 'media, image, and message', and as its name implies, it will give you a full enjoyment of all these entertainment forms it possesses including the 13 screen multiplex cinema, real actor performances, 5 unique attractions ('Where the Wild Things Are', 'Airtight Garage', 'The Yellow Submarine', 'Tribute to the Love Generation' and 'Star Adventure'), 'The Yellow Submarine' is located at the 6th floor of Mediage.
This attraction exists only in Japan and Berlin, Germany up to now, and is a conversation type simulation ride that takes you on an enjoyable tour of the Beatles' yellow submarine adventure. Once upon a time, there was a paradise called Pepper Land full of happiness and music in Beatles' hometown, Liverpool, but Blue meanies, leading flying groups and troops, declared war to destroy it, and the Beatles took up arms to defend their paradise against the enemy. Their weapons were humor, songs, Yellow Submarine, and nothing more, but they had to fight all across 4 beautiful but dangerous seas to beat down the evil Blue Kingdom.
Before you ride in 'The Yellow Submarine', Captain Fred will give you detailed instructions as to how and what to do to save the paradise together with the Beatles.
You can directly talk with Captain Fred on the screen and he will answer all the questions you raise, and finally Captain Fred will tell you the key words to save Pepper Land.
OK OK! I know this is corny and a product of typical crazy Japanese imagination, but hey, its fun!
After you finish the ride, just outside the exit, there is Japan's first 'The Yellow Submarine' official shop in which different articles, wares, clothes, etc. are sold. The opening hours of 'The Yellow Submarine' are: 11:00 to 23:00.

Decks Tokyo Beach and Little Hong Kong

A new magnificent building 'Island Mall' opened to the public on December 2, 2000. This new 'flagship' attraction is 'Daiba Little Hong Kong'. In this replicated entertainment park, you can enjoy the very things of Hong Kong in the heart of Tokyo. With many entertainment facilities, restaurants, shops and other service facilities sponsored by Namco Co. Ltd., you can enjoy to your heart's content in this strange but well concepted atmosphere.
