12-15-93...Curt at home with dad.
12-16-93...Curt has blood count at 12 p.m. and AGC is 483. Dad and Curt talked to Mrs. Bailey and he can participate in the Christmas program. Abby's band was far and away the best performance.
12-17-93...Curt's WBC is high enough to return to school but he says he is too tired and stays home. He does catch up his school work.

12-19-93... Grandma Stevie comes to Dodge so she can get her knee scoped tomorrow. The girls got a new bunk bed in their room.
funny ...I don't remember so much of this stuff...hardly any of it. I think your mind goes into overload shutdown...a self preservation tactic...The days passed so quickly....and were so blurred...
12-20-93...Curt returns to school today. Grandma Stevie has arthroscopic surgery on her right knee and dad gets the staples out of his leg.
12-21-93...Grandma staying in Abby and Krissy's room and all going well.

12-25-93...Christmas is very pleasant and rather quiet. Kids open their presents and have breakfast. After breakfast dad puts up basketball goal and Curt has dad play the rest of the day . Grandma heads for Oakley at about 10 a.m. The weather is great.
the only Christmas I will remember as long as I live. The weather was just as unusual as the day was. It wasn't Christmas as far as I was concerned. Just another day...another day watching Curt...watching his every move, expression, and every breath. At this point we had been told there was without a question...no hope. But there he was...reveling in yet another day...being his sunny self...laughing...giggling...immersed in THIS Christmas Day. He looked like an old man to me.. a few long hairs stubbornly still held on....dark circles under his eyes...he stubbornly refused to take a much needed rest. I chose to wallow in self pity...taking refuge in the bedroom...with Curt popping in to lay with me from time to time...with lots of squirming...I knew he was inwardly worrying about mom.
12-26-93...Mommy cleans house most of the day and Curt and dad play basketball most of the day. Tomorrow everyone except Dad head for Wichita.
12-27-93...my own notation made in Larry's journal...Monday drove to Wichita, left about 10:30 a.m. Stopped and ate lunch at McDonalds in Pratt. Kids had a good time while mom got their good. Arrived Wichita about 3 p.m. Went to see a movie, Mrs. Doubtfire with the Mikus kids and Aunt Cathy.
12-28-93...Left for Hospital early 8:30 a.m. Stopped at Dunkin Donuts...ck'ed in and Grandma Hubbard already waiting in the lobby. Up to the room about 10:30 a.m. Had Cat Scan at 5 p.m. Chemo started, finally about 7:30 p.m. Good evening. Dad called in the afternoon.
12-29-93...Results of the Cat Scan...no change. Mom out of room at Parent Support Group, so Grandma Hubbard was told of results. Mom is disappointed...Curt plays Nintendo. Girls to come for visit this afternoon.
It was during this visit, that we met Dr. Barbara DeWitt. She had come in to meet Curt and to talk very candidly with both of us...about the Radiation Therapy we must consider. This was by far the worst conversation I have ever had with a physician, and yet she held nothing back from me or Curt. The radiation would steal the Curt we knew...and give us a totally different Curt. She was talking quantity not quality of life...her words exactly. Without the radiation...time was short. God...what a choice!...there was no right choice...only wrong choices...would this nightmare ever end? we have one month to decide...there will be no more chemotherapy done.
12-30-93...In hospital
12-31-93...Chemo done at 8 p.m. Mommy, Curt, Abby, and Krissy spend the night at Grandma Hubbards.
1-1-93...Arrive back in Dodge about 2 p.m. Curt fairly tired but insists on playing basketball and football if only for about 15 minutes between rest breaks. Weather is great and perfect for basketball and football.
1-2-93...We watch "Attack of the 50 ft. Woman". Curt and dad play some basketball but it is pretty cool and windy. Curt, Krissy, and Sarah go to the movie to see "Wayne's World".
1-3-93...Curt is in school all day and spends some time with Mrs. Walker which he enjoys. Curt and dad play basketball then Curt plays with George who he hasn't played with since he was diagnosed with cancer.
1-4-93...After school Curt plays basketball with dad and then goes over to play at George's house.
