"Juliet" was born on a sunday just in time for lunch. She was born quickly and easily.
I had prepared myself well. As soon as the first pains came i was ecstatic with the knowledge that soon my child would be in my arms.
I woke at 9am with a dull tightening in my belly. I rang Robyn to let her know that today would be the day and went to shower. Things moved very fast as soon as the water touched my body. The contractions became intense, i washed my hair but didn't get to brush it till labour was over. Bye the time Robyn had arrived i'd managed to pull some clothes on and we went straight to the hospital. The drive past stands of ironbark and box was a blurr of contractions, i was completely lost to the outside world. I was helped from the car, sat in a wheelchair and pushed to the ward. Even the banal questioning of the staff did nothing to phase me. I worked through the conractions, hearing their questions as if they were said from miles away, and answered them all correctly when the waves of intensity momentarily abated. All emotion, all sensation, all thought were unified as "Juliet" and i moved appart. What a joy it was when she emerged. The first sound to greet her was my laughter as i looked at her, and she looked at me. "Another girl" i anounced to the world with a smile. |
