MANY RARE ANIMALS FREELY KEPT.

(snipped)

Adi Susmianto (KSDA, head of Sub-regional Natural Resource Conservation, Dept. of Forestry, of West Kalimantan) said a while ago in the Lake Sentarum area, Kapuas Hulu Regency, an English reseracher succeeded in finding a new species, the Siamese Crocodile (Crocodylus raninus). This species is considered rvery rare in the world ecause it has been declared extinct more than 100 years ago.

Compared to the Komodo Dragon (Varanus komodoensis) which lives in Komodo Island in East Nusa tenggara, this crocdile is only 2 meters long. The body is shorter and smaller, so is the snout. The color is beautifully patterned, especially on the back and the tail.
