Where I Work

To "support my habit," I *do* have a real job for the time being. I am an associate professor of English and journalism at Ashland Community College and have been for six years now. I enjoy teaching, and I enjoy most of all working with the students, and in particular, the non-traditional students (over age 25) who have often overcome incredible personal obstacles to attend college and make better lives for themselves and their families. They constantly inspire me. My heart, however, is in the healing work.

At ACC, I teach writing and occasionally literature and developmental reading, as well as all the journalism classes at the college. I am also the advisor of OnCenter, our student-produced newspaper that comes out five times per semester.

In the Fall of 1997, I will be trying something new: teaching an distance learning course utilizing compressed video and internet resources. My syllabus for that course is now on the web, if you'd care to see it.
