King Chulalongkorn built Niwet Thamprawat Temple on a small island in the Chao Phraya River near Bang Pa-In Palace in 1878. The church of this temple was built in European Gothic stype. The cable car was provided as a mean for transporting people across the river between the palace and the temple.
