The Smaller of the two Chinese style Residences
According to architectural and archeological evidences discovered during the recent renovation of the palace, the building was constructed either in the reign of
H.M. King Rama I or II as indicated by the stratum on which the building stands. The shape of the structure and
the artifacts discovered in the area also conform to the mode of that period.
The architectural style of the building is Chinese but the doors and windows have been altered to suit the hot Thai climate.
It is assumed that while H.M. Phra Pinklao Chao Yuhua (when he held the position of H.R.H. Prince Krommaluang Issaresrangsan) lived at Phra Raja Wang Derm
from 1824 to 1851 (BE 2367 to 2394) he ordered a renovation of the structure at the same time that he had a larger Chinese building constructed in the compatible style.
Later, when H.M. King Chulalongkorn consented to have Phra Raja Wang Derm used as the Naval Academy, the Smaller of the two Chinese style Residences
was used for storage until 1995 (BE 2538).
