The Abode of H.M. King Pinklao Chao Yuhua
Phra Pin's residence was built by H.M. The second King Pinklao Chao Yuhua (when he was
H.R.H. Prince Krommaluang Issaresrangsan) while he lived at Phra Raja Wang Derm from 1824 and 1851.
The building was constructed and designed in western style or in the "American building Style".
It may have been the first building of this kind built in the Rattanakosin Period.
The Abode is a two storey brick and mortar building, with a hipped roof. The upper floor interior partitions are construted with horizontal
wood panelings. The floor interior is construted with wood floor boards. The walls, ceilings, windows and doors, including all of the wooden
decorations were painted olive green as it was the popular color in those days. It is assumed that the lower floor was primarily used for
food preparation and lived-in service quarters.
It can be concluded from the architectural and archeological documents still existing, that the Abode was repaired and remodelled during the time
that H.R.H. Prince Kromma Phra Chakrapadibhongse lived there from 1885 to 1900. In 1942 the entire building was again repaired by the Royal Thai Navy.
The damage generally caused by the leaky roofs and then the moisture trapped in between wooden structural members of the building.
After H.M. King Phra Pinklao ascended the throne, he moved to the Second King's palace, and the building became the home of H.R.H. Prince Krommaluang Vongsathirajsnid.
When H.M. King Rama V donated the palace to the Royal Thai Navy the building was again remodelled for use as the office of the Naval Education Department and the
Cartographic Division of the Naval Hydrographic Department from 1902 to 1906. After that it was used by the Museum storage, Historical Division, Naval Operation Department;
as the Headquarters of the Naval Officers College, the Office for Senoir Officers and by Senior Women Naval Officers.
