Gryphons are definately my favorite mythological creatures! They are intelligent, yet strong, caring yet brave. In achient times, they were considered to be protectors of the innocent. Below is my artistic impression of a gryphon (from a novel I am currently writing).
For those of you who know me, this part of the Lair should be no surprise, I am eternally cursed with an affection for these fur-winged myths. I mean, how many people have crated their own clan of gryphons entitled The Gryphons Sisters, created their own written and spoken language, etc...? Oh well... If you want to, you can visit a site dedicated to the teaching of this unique language here at Du Quiear]tal dr]anta Du G]r]yphon, The Language of the Gryphon. If you wish, you can even become a trainee in the art of speaking and writing it by e-mailing me at tigress@pptnet.comand telling me you are interested... I know that Cheetaerah would be more than honored to be your mentor. The gryphon below also resides in my room...
And now, you want yourself a gryphon huh? Well, through my travels, I've begun to archive were you might be able to find some, and what kinds, etc. This will likely be more interesting once my scanner is working again, but until then, I'll do my best!
The previous picture is of a gryphon I have from the wonderful people at Windstone editions. That white/brown one is discontinued, and I was lucky enough to find it while traveling along the coast of Oregon, in May of 1997, through a sea-port at a really neat fantasy-store! It's about 8 inches tall, and is VERy nice, with little cut stones in the gold necklace. The gryphon from Windstone editions comes in either this color, or the one they are currently producing now, black, with sort-of metalic blue and purple tinted feathers. VERY nice as well.
Windstone is more well-known for their unicorns and brightly-colored, and HIGHLY detailed dragons, but their logo is a gryphon, so it HAS to be good anyways right? *grin* But, be warned, most figurines are a bit pricey. Though with good reason, a relatively tiny figurine can end up costing you over $40, but it's worth it!
Now, there is a less-expensive toy that might hold you over until you can gather-up enough money for those prizes, a gryphonish action-figure! That's right, there's a figure from the series "Beast Wars" whose name is Silverbolt, and though he is a hybrid eagle and wolf, he still deserves recognition.
I bought him for $9.99 at my local Toys-R-Us, but I've also seen him around for a bit more at some Kay-Bee-Toy Stores, and other Hobbie shops. But he is really-neat in that he is not only remarkably decent-looking, but is also highly-poseable! You can't miss this thing! If you pull on the eagle-esque tail, his wings even move back and forth! And his fore-paws have MANY joint that even allow the fingers to move separately! OF COURSE "beast-mode" is better, but how can you NOT like this thing?
And now, ladies, gentlemen, and other assorted creatures, I am proud to bring you the Gryphon Gallery of Artwork. There, there is a menagerie of different gryphonic pics for your viewing pleasure, made even better by the fact that all images are shown in clickable thumbnails, to make down-loading quicker, and less annoying. So please, stop by and take a look at the wonderful impressions people, including myself, have had of this magnificent creature!
