"Petunia"
P. hybrids
Petunias make fine indoor plants, even though they last but a single winter season. The blossoms, up to 4 inches across, are often fringed and double flowered, and come in colors ranging from white and pale yellow through pink and red, to blue and deep purple, with some varieties multicolored. Plants grow 12 inches or taller. Trailing varieties do well in hanging baskets.
HOW TO GROW:
Petunias do best in at least four hours of direct sunlight a day, and day temperatures of 68° to 72°. Night temperatures during the winter must be 50° to 55°; if higher, flower buds will not form. Let the soil become slightly dry between thorough waterings. Fertilize every two weeks. The best winter-flowering plants come from seedlings started in midsummer. Watch for aphids and spider mites.
